#TARGA + SETUP

TO ALL
I'M TRYING TO SET UP A TARGA + 64 ON A DELL DIMENSION 60P COMPUTER WITH A NO.
NINE GXE PCI BUS VIDEO CARD. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS OF
MEMORY CONFIGERATIONS FOR BOTH THE I/O BASE ADDRESS AND BASE MEMORY. ALL I GET
IS A BLANK DARK SCREEN. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE SETTING A TARGA + CARD
ON A DELL PENTIUM MACHINE OR OTHER SIMILAR MACHINES? ANY COMMENTS OR
SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. B.T.W. I AM PLANNING TO USE THE TARGA BOARD
TO RUN ANIPRO IF I GET IT WORKING. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Jim,
<< targa+ >>
Dave, on 6/6, recently helped a targa configuration problem with this advice:
"first toss himem.sys out the drive door and put in qemm386.sys. second you
need to exclude address d000-dfff in the qemm386.sys line in your config.sys
file. it should look like this device=c:\qemm386.sys ram x=d000-dfff the
problem here is that your vga card is living in the same space that the targa
wants to live in. you should also make sure what targa you have in there! this
is very important, expecialy if its a targa32 or if its a targa 16/32 plus. the
drivers are different that you load prior to running 3dstudio. i run two
targa64+'s here."
Is this a targa+64? There was another recent thread that does sound familiar to
your black frame..:"… indicate a problem with the Targa 64+ actually
recording black frames rather than the intended image in some cases. If you'd
like, I can dig it up and post that paragraph here. I believe the recommended
solution is to use the Diaquest TPLUSLOA.EXE to load your frame and Diaquest
(or something similar) to control the recording deck."….
More information is needed as to your exact config.sys and autoexec.bat, an
indication as to which card you have, memory manager, video card and addresses
that your hardware resides at.

JONAS,
THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLY. IHAVE BEEN USING HIMEM.SYS AND EMM386. I'LL TRY
QEMM. I'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW I MAKE OUT.
THANKS,
JIM
JONAS,
STILL HAVING PROBLEMS SETTING UP THE TARGA + 64.
I HAVE TRIMMED DOWN THE CONFIG.SYS FILES AND AUTOEXEC.BAT FILES. TO —
[CONFIG.SYS]
device=c:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS RAM x=D000-Dfff
buffers=17,0
files=30
lastdrive=h
fcbs=16,8
stacks=9,256
device=c:\tplus\targap.sys b0 i220 mD r1 w1 s1 d6
I HAVE DOUBLECHECKED THE JUMPERS FOR THE I/O ADDRESS SPACE AND THEY ARE
CORRECTLY SET FOR 0x220 WHICH IS THE DEFAULT.
[AUTOEXEC.BAT]
@ECHO OFF
PROMPT $P$G
PATH H:\EXCEL;C:\DOS;C:\WINDOWS;C:\MOUSE;H\:PKZIP;C:\TPLUS;C:\TPLUS\WINAPP
SET MOUSE=C:\MOUSE
C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE /Q
SET TPLUSTSR=66
C:\TPLUS\TPLUSTSR.EXE
C:\TPLUS\TMODE 3
C:\TPLUS\TPCLR
SET TARGA=24
THE FINAL FOUR LINES WERE INSERTED BY THE TARGA SETUP SOFTWARE EXCEPT THAT I
HAD TO CHANGE THE VALUE IN THE "SET TPLUSTSR=66" LINE.
I AM RUNING A DELL DIMINSION P60 WITH 16 MEG OF RAM AND A PCI BUS NUMBER NINE
GXE VIDIO CARD WHICH I THINK HAS THREE MEG OF RAM.
I RAN QEMM MANIFEST WHICH REPORTS THAT MEM. AREA D000-DFFF IS UNUSED AND MEMORY
AREA 1FC8-26A5 (27K) IS A PROGRAM AREA AND 26A6-9FFF (486K) IS AVAILABLE.
ANY SUGESTIONS WILL BE APPRECIATED
THANKS
JIM
Jim PMJI,
you need a set statement that reads
SET RDPADI = C:\3DS3\DRIVERS\RDPTPLUS.EXP
I don't know what the Tplustr=66 value is for but you don't need it for 3DS
I also don't know why you're setting;
SET TARGA=24
As for TMODE 3 can't see any advantage to that,
Try TMODE 11.
So in conclusion all you should need is the SET statement and TMODE 11.
You might want to turn off your CAPS. It makes it look like your shouting. <g>

Jim,
One monitor setup, right? Otherwise, I can't see a reason for using
TPLUSTSR. First off, this is a bad idea – you really should run a separate
monitor on the Targa+. That's what Truevision really wants, although the
single monitor approach was a customer request. It is very limited in terms of
pass-through resolution & # of colors from the VGA. Anyway, your TARGAP.SYS
driver shows D6, which I believe (off the top of my head) indicates that you
are NOT using pass-through, thus TPLUSTSR shouldn't be used, and you should be
on 2 monitors. Try deciding on one method or the other. Why are you using
TMODE 3? Usually mode is TMODE 11 6 0 (512x486x32-bit, no VGA pass-thru,
first Targa board in system).
