Does anybody know what the status of Apex Publishing is (the folks who sell Steve Worley's Forge program) ? I've been calling them for the last week so I could put in an order for Forge (since it's only available through them), and all I get is an answering machine. They haven't returned any calls. If it wasn't such a nice program I'd have given up by now.

Same thing happened to me. Give em some time, they'll get back. Sounds like a small operation, or else it's vacation time. I just got my Forge/Essence combo recently. They are still around. Stephen Bailey Sawyer & Bailey Film and Video – Chicago

It is a small operation – Steve Worley. I think Steve is overwhelmed with the interest in Forge and is very busy duping/packaging/shipping/answering/sleeping/duping/packaging…. I think if you are patient, he will get to you… JG

I couldn't agree more. Patience has paid off. Great software! Stephen Bailey Sawyer & Bailey Film and Video – Chicago

Actually I believe Steve is NOT alone at APex, I think Glenn Lewis and another Gent whose name I can't recall are also at Apex. Still a small operation tho.

Thanks, Stephen. I finally got a call from Steve Worley today. From what I've seen the program will be well worth the wait.

Don't give up ! Even with an order form ( I have Essence I & II), it took about three weeks to get Forge to me. You might try it E-Mail, "spworle@netcom.com".

Thanks, Margaret. I finally got in touch with Steve and sent off an order.

I don't understand it – but everytime *I* call – he answers the phone. Must be my luck. I never call before 12 pm PST as they are programmers, right ? BTW, I've been exploring the update that I got for Essence II and the "sorta-Alpha Channel stuff" that can be created with Imagine's attribute requestor. I'm going to be uploading a simple render to Amigaarts that illustrates this feature. You can make a greyscale image map that controls the placement of textures on your object. This is not the same as altitude map control. This is a very powerful feature that Apex has implemented. I hope the Lightwave version gets the same thing someday.

Thanks, Margaret. I take it you're using Imagine and Lightwave; I haven't used Imagine – how do you like it ?

I've been with Imagine since it was TurboSilver. I've seen Lightwave up close and have played with it. Certain aspects of Lightwave make putting a scene together faster. OTOH, Imagine 3.0 has more stage control so this is less an issue. To tell you the truth, I think any of these 3D programs are difficult to use well and understand. I'm not much of a modeler but I do have 3 stand alone modeling programs that will write Imagine objects. Imagine has a giant library of textures as it is. Apex gives you even more. I like Imagine because I can finally get something I like out of it. The thought of changing to another 3D program is scary. I don't want to devote the time to a new learning curve.

Perhaps they are on Vacation?
