Hi, all Who can help me with a hint ? How can use my ATI mach64 PCI graphic board with 3DS Release 3 ? There was a RCPADI driver delivered with the board but it was not up to date (… Release 2) I tried nearly every Vibrant configuration but I had no luck. If you can help – leave a message THX

Look for the updated vibrant drivers here in the software library- Mach64 is on those—- I also have the new Mach64 and 3ds3- one problem is a startup period of about 30 seconds when you run the program— nobody seems to know why- someone else posted a message about it online – He'd talked to both Autodesk and ATI with no luck– probably just both pointed the finger at each other- Also be sure your windows system.ini file has bitmaps=off or else you will have real problems under windows– especially running video and using some different resolutions. I'm going to drop ATI a bitch note about the delay times under 3ds3 and hope all other Mach users will to until they get it in gear and fix it—-Oh yeah it also takes about 5 seconds between each screen change between programs under 3ds3 and between the render displays——-Hope this helps!

Sorry about the delays with the Mach 64. We are looking into it. The 5 second delay is due to the BIOS on the Mach 64 taking a while to determine memory size… We are looking at ways around this, but we aren't clear on what else to do about it. As for the 30 second delays, we are still looking into it. We usually see about a 10-15 second load time in general, with 5-8 extra seconds on a Mach 64, so 30 seconds may be pretty close to normal… Again, if we can figure out how to get the BIOS to response quicker–or bypass it–we will hopefully be able to fix this. Not much we can do until then… Sorry. Chuck Walbourn – Vibrant Graphics

I just got an ATI PRO TURBO PCI 4 MEG, and I am experiencing these wait times between screen mode changes… and they are unbarable. I had a Matrox MGA Ultra prior to this and it worked great, why is this card that is supposed to be faster having these problems? If you update the drivers, please let me know via mail or someting so I can doenload them and give them a try. Thanks. << ARA >>

Thanks for your reply. hope to see it resolved soon, I like everything else about the card otherwise… << ARA >>

Well, I would've told you to hold on to the Matrox for a while, but no one listens to me… How fast does the ATI redraw 4 viewports, in a relative comparison? I was using a SpeedStar (ack) for my VGA for a while, that was SLOW, so when I reconfigured the MGA I almost dropped it was so fast…

It's just as good, but switching between modes takes a "noticably long" time. I like the MGA but is was a DOG in DOS… ( see PC magazine [1 or 2issues back] benchmarks ). I like the MGA drivers and Install process much better… I got the ATI configured so it is working with everything, now the production testing comes to into play. Stay tuned. << ARA >>

Sounds pretty good… the Matrox is a DOS-DOG, but I swapped the VGA for a SpeedStar (Et4000) which is plenty quick for games and flic-playback… until I get a PAR… <dream on, dream away>

You mean you have two cards in your box? How do you configure that? <<ARA >>

Matrox knew their cards bit dust in DOS, and they were polite enough to include a VGA-disable switch. From there, the rest is history… I put the VGA card in, and utilized (this is where the luck comes in) a HD-15 to 4-BNC video cable to hook the VGA to my BNC inputs. I have a Mag MX-17, which has a cute little switch on the front that allows swapping from the VGA to the Matrox. The Matrox is in use anywhere it's called directly, Windows, 3D Studio, Acad… OS/2 if I choose (but that's not a good idea, for my system at least <g>). All other commands file out to the Et4000… which makes Doom work with full sound and speed, Flics playback at least 45% faster, etc. My only problem came when I wanted to use the ET4000 for the graphic interface for the 3DS. No matter what I used as a config for the Et4000, the monitor would always start to -SCREAM- in under an hour…

Are you running with a switchbox? In what situations will the MGA take over from the ET4000 (at what resolutions, what driver calls, etc…)? I'm thinking of doing this when I get MGA's in all my machines because I like to check out games once in a while, and the MGA definitely sucks there. I've got a Herc Graphite in one machine now, but that's going as soon as I get another MGA that I can map with the Matrox MAX in the same machine. thanks, John Tissavary (LUNA cie)
