Sorry about the delay. I think you know what I've been doing. <Hey, how come you signed your message with JKJ> Beats me! Sometimes I paste the entire message I am answering. Then delete the parts I don't need. I must have been in a rush to go change a diaper! It's probably time I gave my ASOFT friends an update on my activities with Autodesk. I've been waiting for something concrete to report. That has not happened formally yet. However, it is almost certain to take place eventually. Things just move a lot slower than I expected. Dare I say, should be soon? I wouldn't be waiting, if it weren't for everyone who has expressed their opinion on my work in this forum. Thanks again! Meanwhile, I continue to enjoy the freedom of retirement. I've done a few small commercial jobs and am going to be writing something on Animator for a new newsletter (doesn't have a name yet) that is going to be introduced at SIGGRAPH. I am thinking of uploading some detailed tutorials as shareware. Ed K

Ed, Busy Busy. <g> >> I am thinking of uploading some detailed tutorials as shareware. << Have you thought about writing a book? I think if AniPro got a little bit of a face lift and a little serious marketing, it would become more popular than ever, especially if it was ported to Windows? What do you think? -JE

<Have you thought about writing a book?> Often! And I probably will. But right now, I'm doing tasks that don't commit me for more than 2-3 weeks while I wait for Autodesk's plans to gel. There is some method to my madness though. And, I was going to discuss some of my thoughts with you. Check your E-mail. < I think if AniPro got a little bit of a face lift and a little serious marketing, it would become more popular than ever, especially if it was ported to Windows?> Definitely, it does need 24-bit, Windows, and all that. But AniPro should be much more popular now! Every day I find more things it can do. There does not seem to be an end to the useful ways that tools and inks can be combined (permuted, actually), In the last couple of months I've figured out how (and uploaded samples) to do explosions, smoke, vapor, melted metal, water drops, interlinked spirals, etc. The problem with AniPro is the time that it takes to figure out how to do these things. But once discovered it's easy and quick. I guess I am getting in a soap box, but you started it! I'd like to give you an example. I've been working on a tutorial on how to create animations of one type of linked objects (whips, chains, elephant trunks, tails, etc). Once I explain a small trick: there is almost nothing else to explain. It becomes almost trivial, and too simple to call shareware! Ed K

Ed, I've downloaded everything you've put on the forum. Really nice stuff! As to a new AniPro, I've seen several post in reference to it, and I figured I was off the Beta list because of my blow up with Adesk about shipping my stuff with their product in violation of the license agreement. BUT ……… As great as your AniPro work is, if you're not Beta testing the new AniPro then Adesk needs to seriously re-eval their beta list. Paul

<I've downloaded everything you've put on the forum. Really nice stuff!> Thanks Paul! It's comments like those that make it worthwhile. I didn't know you had had problems with Autodesk. Hope you are past that and onto other things. Ed K

Ed, >> I guess I am getting in a soap box… << Not at all, like you said "I asked". <g> I'm actually thrilled to hear of your tutorials. My recent experiences with 256 color palettes have pointed up the fact that I could stand to sharpen my Ani Pro skills. 🙂 >> The problem with AniPro is the time that it takes to figure out how to do these things. But once discovered it's easy and quick. << Sound like the makings of a really good book. -JE

…Animator for a new newsletter (doesn't have a name yet) that is going to be introduced at SIGGRAPH….detailed tutorials as shareware. Great idea. This would be really appreciated.

I appreciate hearing your opinion. It really influences what I do. To clarify, the Newsletter is not an Animator Newsletter. But, it will have two short articles on Animator that I am writing. Ed K

Gekki Edm (oops, that's "Hello Ed," with the right-hand fingers off by one on the keyboard.) It sounds like you are having fun with the baby and all. If you need a baby-sitter, just stop by Tennessee. <g> I've just finished a major work project and finally get to breathe again. I got to play with Fractint, did some 3DS and some _AniPro_!!! today, and even relaxed on the hammock some. Yikes! (Wow, my wife just sat down and flipped thru the channels on my 3DS Sony "monitor", and heard the name "O.J.Simpson" on three successive channels within three seconds. Yikes, again.) I thought about you today – I was simulating a special mirror for an optical project and needed to make some numbered grids to use as indexing maps, so I sat down and wrote a POCO program for the first time in a year. It took me about an hour (I'll bet you could have done it in 10 minutes). I keep forgetting how easy and how much fun POCO is. Did you ever write your book on AniPro programming? Well, I see I've got another 1000 messages to download and read – I'd better get busy! JKJ
