CDs in raw mode?

Does anyone know of any CD-ROMs which must be read in "raw" mode?
Do you know why? Are they doing "funny" things in the error correction
data?

P.S., for those who wonder what in hell I'm talking about, most CD-ROM
applications read in "cooked" mode, which means that a Sector Read
operation returns 2K of data. Most CD-ROM Drives also have a "raw" mode
read, which returns the 2K of data, plus 16 bytes of control data, plus 288
bytes of error correction data.
I dunno, but it would make a helluva name for a rock 'n roll record,
'The Raw and the Cooked'…..Let me know and we'll patent it. <gd&r>

Actually, older CD-ROM drives that don't inherently support Mode 2, form 1
in their ROM are read in 'raw' mode to allow them to read Photo CD single
session discs. The driver does the work instead of the drive. That's how,
for instance, the standard Trantor CD-ROM driver allows many older CD-ROM
drives to read single session Photo CD discs!
Aha. Do you know if any normal, commercial CD-ROMs use raw mode?
