#flic-help needed
7 messages in this thread
Hello there
I just got back to my machine and noticed a "$fli165.tga" error
message on the screen. Well, after 6 hour and 45 minutes I ran out of
disk space. Is there any way that I can salvage these temporary
tga-files and turn them into a flic? After I do that how can I just
render the rest of the frames and then "merge" the two flics? Meaning
attach one to the end of the other to produce one LARGE flic file?
Any help out there?

Sure, they just need to be sequentialy numbered.
There are two ways to make the Flic file once you have these images,
using either Animator Pro, or 3D Studio. The easiest way is to use
Animator Pro. Use the NUMPIC utility in the POCO pull down menu.
Choose the "LOAD PICS AS FLIC" option to make a Flic file. If you
don't have AAPRO, you can accomplish the same thing in Video Post.
Start a new 3DS project, and move right into the Keyframer module.
Select Renderer\Video Post from the menu, and click on the active
viewport. Make sure the ADD button is highlighted, and click once in
the Queue column. You should see [KF Scene] appear. Highlight the
EDIT button, and then click on the words [KF Scene]. The Queue Entry
dialogue box will appear. Highlight BITMAP and then click on the box
just to the right of that button. A file selection box will appear.
Type in the first four letters of the files you created followed by
an *, then the extension (i.e. REND*.TGA) and select OK. The bitmap
name (with the *) should now appear in the box next to the BITMAP
button. Select OK and in the Video Post dialogue box, select RENDER.
You will now get the familiar Render dialogue box. Make sure you are
configured for FLIC as your output file type and hit the RENDER
button on the bottom of the screen. When finished, you will have a
flic file from the original TGA files. You can now delete those TGA
files. (Check to make sure it worked first, though.)

Do you have Animator Pro? In that it would be easy. I don't know of an easy way
in 3D Studio, althoug it could be done using video post.

No I don't have Animator Pro…Where would I find it? Would this new Animator
Studio product do the same trick? (I just recieved the demo-CD today)

Any Autodesk MM dealer. Call 800-964-6432.

Yes, but it would turn it into an AVI in the process. You could then turn it
back into an FLC, but the palette might be slightly different.

Rather than turning the temp files into an FLC now, why don't you render the
rest of the animation to TGA files, and then rename name the temp files so all
have the same first four letters. Then you can convert the entire animation
from TGA's to an FLC at once, and not worry about splicing two FLC files
together.

Michael,
Solution 1:
Make an IFL (image file list) by using:
dir /b *.tga >file.ifl
Sort the list by number (see SORT-Dos-Command)
make two or more Video-Post entries in 3DS like this:
file.ifl .———————.
append.flc .————————.
Render it !
That should make a nice animation.
Solution 2:
Get DTA (Dave's targa animator) from the Utilities library and use it.
Good luck
