Nik, Here are some of my comments on AAS: * Really need to be able to read .ani files off the PAR. Having to use .tga's causes some real logistical problems. * Need to be able to load a definable RANGE of .tga's (instead of having to rename the few I need and then rename them again when finished.) * The "line properties" dialog should have the option to create an arrowhead on either end of the line. Take a look at the way Photoshop does this. * "Duplicate Frame" should allow user to specify the number of frames to be duplicated (instead of having to duplicate them one by one.) * When a file is closed, a message will often appear asking, "A portion of this movie has been copied to the clipboard. Do you want to clear the clipboard and close the file?" The only options are either "NO" or "CANCEL". Seems confusing to me; how about having a "YES" for keeping the clipboard and a "NO" for clearing the clipboard? * It would be much better to be able to have multiple floating objects instead of just one at a time. Look at Photoshop's "layer" method or Composer' s floating object method. This would greatly improve AAS' compositing ability. * Overall: AAS has some very nice features but I am dissapointed as what I really wanted was an updated, 24 bit Animator Pro. AAS is also extremely slow. I'm using it on a P90 but such seemingly simple operations like moving a floating object around in one frame is v e r y s l o w. I keep finding myself yearning to go back to AAP. I do like AAS' great help dialogs and hypertext features. Alec Jason

Alec: Great points: I about had fits duplicating one frame at a time and also ran into the one floating object at a time when I wanted multiple objects. I would also like the multiple programs to be integrated. Back and forth is a major drag. Ironic as it seems I found Pro to be more intuitive. I would also like an updated player that is truly MCI compliant. AS is not the only win app we use and OLE is sure on my wish list. I guess we can hope for a quick update or incremental fixes posted here. Well Alec isn't nice to know your not alone? Karen

Karen, Yes, it is nice to know I'm not alone. What did you mean about wanting a player which is "truly MCI compliant" ? I don't actually know what a MCI driver does. A luta continua, Alec Jason

Most Multimedia players will play from the Media player in Windows. Player won't. It also doesn't support OLE. This references back to a question Laurie Anderson (no relation) posted here where she wanted the flic player to launch from inside MS Powerpoint. In a nutshell, cross application, multimedia compliant. I understand Adesk is working on this. Karen

Alec (and Karen): This is exactly the stuff I was hoping for. I recognize a few of them myself! Forwarded. And again, thanks.

Nik, I don't know what Autodesk has planned for the future but I hope you'll pass along my strong wish for a 24 bit Animator Pro. Tell them to forget about Windows, just make AAP work in 24 bit and leave everything else as it is. Alec Jason

AHhhhhhhhhhh – mega-wish <Ani Pro 24 bit> This monster program, with it's elegance and simplicity. If only it's creators would give it a little nudge over the 8bit hurdle. Even 16bit would be amazing. Jeffrey

I've mailed your message to Mark – along with the trail of other messages extolling a 24 bit AAPro. During the planning phases of AAStudio, the idea of a 24 bit AAPro was discussed, and then dropped after some feasibility studies. A lot of the program is written for 8 bit and would have major rewrites for 24 bit. Not that it might not be worth it – I'm just mentioning that we looked into this already and there was difficulty doing so.

Nik <<extolling a 24 bit AAPro>> Ahhhhh yes, Ani-Pro @ 24bit! :- )))) So, Nik, I decided to take a few days off. Went out in the "real" world to visit some friends in other digital dungeons. A few little shops, and two huge places with over 60 seats. 3-DS and Ani-Pro is what you see up on screen after screen after screen. What everybody wanted was Ani-Pro at 24bit. There is such a fierce following of ANi-Pro/3-DS, it would be so nice to see the little family kept intact. :- ) [awwwwwwwww] Jeffrey
