Not sure why you would be losing characters with the chat window open since the
modem receiver is interrupt driven. Does it happen often? As far as the
translation tables go, its a bit tedious but you have to translate characters
from 80-FF to 00-7F on both the keyboard/display or the COM in/out tables. A
better solution is to configure your service to 8N1 (if possible). What happens
when you try to dial the R/S modem at 7E1?
The R/S Modem II will NOT respond to commands sent to it at 7E1.
The modem's manual indicates that 8/n/1 uppercase only is the
only combo of settings with which commands may be sent to the
modem. It's just a minor inconvenience using Online! with it
I just have to click the word length to 8, command the modem to
dial, then click it back to 7 to go online without garbage.
I'll have a 'real' modem shortly (Hayes compatible, 1200 baud)
and then this nonsense with the Model II will be history.

Re the chat window, yes I lose a character quite consistently,
not necessarily on every line I type into the window, but the
faster I type, the more chars it seems to lose, and if something
is scrolling in on the big window above the chat window, then
I *always* lose about a character a line or more when typing into
the chat window.
