Animator Studio is so slow when I used the paintbrush. I could only got some dots and once in a while a line or two. Totally unusable! I have a Watcom tablet, the pressure sensitive brush is so SLOW that it is unusable. I have no problem with Painter 3 doing similar things. I have 486 with 16M RAM… Anything I can do to make this better with my computer? Thanks. Mei-Tien

Mei-Tien, What kind of 486 do you have. I have seen this on machines that are less than the minimum 66 Megahertz machines, which is why we don't recommend using this on 486 50 or 33. This includes chip doubled machines that aren't true 66 or higher. Recommendations – Use smaller brush, or buy a faster machine. It works great on a pentium 90. If you are running on a 486-66, we want to know more. Please post all excruciating details as to your system. Thanks, –marK

Mark, I have 486/50. That means I can't draw in AS? Mei-Tien

Not fast. It was the brush tracking on 486/50's that made us decide to limit the minimum requirement to 486-66 –marK

I wouldn't recommend AAS on anything slower than a 486/66 actually, but a 486/50 might work. AAS is a powermonster and it want's all available resources. here are three things you can do to speed up the program if your finding the app slow: a) defragment your harddrive regularly b) create a huge permament swap file. for a system of 16MB try a 50MB swap file. c) disable screen savers and other TSRs keep in mind that performance of any windows app is _never_ solely isolated to the speed of the processor. key component… harddisk access time. how fast is your harddisk? are you running speeddisk or other access optimizations? try them. -dave

Mei-Tien, I've training dealers on Animator Studio with 486/50's for about 3 months. The catch is that they're true 50 MHz computers, not doubled 25's. I find the brush tracking very acceptable with the painting tools. The only tool that is a bit sluggish is the Sprite Tool which is understandable since AS is having to update the position of the sprite every time I move the mouse. Jh

Jeremy, I did not know there is a critical difference between 486/50 and doubled 25. I think I have 486/50 , again I might not. Mei-Tien

Mei-Tien, Actually there is a difference, but mainly in peripheral access(ie. hard drive, video) ia where the true 50 shines. Think about it, a double spaced hard drive may give your more space, but it's still doubled from its original size and therefore may not always give you double the space. Jh
