#Photoshop won't work

Howdy y'all,
I don't know anyone over in the Adobe forum, so I thought I would ask here
first! I'm trying to use Photoshop 3 on a PC. I've got about 22MB of RAM
available for Pshop. Whenever I use it however, I hear the hard drive being
accessed constantly. For instance, if I were to put in two short lines of
text, then use the magic wand to select them, my hard drive will go nuts and it
will take 30-45 seconds. Then, if I just leave my puck idle and do nothing the
hard drive will keep going for quite some time. Has anybody had a similar
problem? I haven't gone through and messed with autoexec.bat and config.sys
yet, but I'll start that now. Please help! this is driving me nuts!

Hi Bob,
When I was having strangities in pshop 3.0 I was advised by Adobe personnel to
delete the file photos30.psp from my c:\windows directory. They said it
sometimes gets corrupt. This file is re-written during each session. I don't
know it's purpose. You can always just rename it instead of deleting it.
Also, if you click on the > arrow at the lower left of the Pshop window, and
select "scratch sizes" from the drop down list, this will change the numbers
displayed just to the left. The numbers displayed then represent: Total RAM
being used by existing images / Total RAM available to Pshop. Unless the left
exceeds the right, you shouldn't be paging to disk.

Thanks for the quick help. I've already deleted the photos30.psp file. (that
info was in the manual). That didn't help. I never got around to figuring out
what those numbers were. Now that I know, I will check on the sizes its giving
me. Wish me luck!

Bob, With only 22Mb of RAM, Photoshop 3.0 is going to page. What resolution
images are you working on? Pshop 3.0 is much more memory intensive than 2.5
was. I've heard of people staying with 2.5 just because of this. You really
need to get more RAM to use Pshop with any kind of speed. Just look at the
service bureause doing printing stuff that have 128Mb or more of RAM as a
standard. Good Luck.

I've pretty much come to the same conclusion regarding memory. I'll just have
to _try_ and keep file sizes small. I'll probably use composer more often
also. Thanks for the input,
