#3ds4, I need help!!!

Please help me if you can.
I have been using 3ds since R2. I've started using R4 about four
months ago and have encountered two new problems.
(1) When I render a flic sometimes I get a fade-out effect. It starts
out fine and gets darker until blackout at the last frame. I think
it's probably something simple that I am just not thinking of.
(2) When I start working with complex meshes or scenes I all of a
sudden get this effect where a number of vertices find new homes and
my mesh looks like one of those growing rock gardens you used to get
when you were a kid (a bunch of pointy spears off the main mesh).
Any help you can give me on this well be greatly appreciated.

"It sounds like your 3DS.EXE got corrupted somehow. First, check
your system for virus' that might've "touched" the program, and then
delete your 3DS.EXE and reinstall it from the original master disks,
making sure that nothing modifies the program in any way. If the
problem continues after that, contact your dealer for a new set of
disks."

I'v got the same problem w/meshes,
now it's time to reinstall 3ds.exe file,
I will let you know about results.
