There are som people in Sweden(Europe), who aer thinking about starting a 3D Studio usergroup. They have asked me to try to get some information about how other 3D Studio usergroups function. They have some basic question. But all input on this matter would gladely be received. 1. What activities does the Usergroup you know of have? (ex educational, workshops, monthly magazine, special prise on books and plugins, parties<g>) 2. How much does it cost? Do they have schoolprices? Do Big companies with many 3D artist have lower price per person? 3. Does the usergroup have any sponsers? 4. Do they actively surch for new members through advertising and alike? Do you have more valuable information on this matter or things that usergroups should do that they don't today. Just write it down and send your thoughts ! -M.E

Martin, I've been running a user group in Boston for several years and am involved with the NAAUG MM SIG >> 1. What activities << Meeting are usually broken into social time, group business (very short<g>), demos by members or vendors of work in progress, Plug-ins, related software, basic features of 3DS, etc. We usually end with open discussions. We've had sporadic newsletters. We have some dealers who offer discounts to group members. >> 2. How much?<< $30/year $20(I think) for students. No volume discounts because nobody has volume members<g> >>3. any sponsers?<< No, we want to stay indepentent from commercial concerns as much as possible. Wentworth Institute does provide us with a room, equipment, and refreshments with no strings attached. >>4. search for new members?<< Mostly, word of mouth, but we are listed in 3D Artist magazine and with Autodesk. Both groups are very helpful in refering inquiries to us. Good luck, it's very rewarding! TedB -Ted Boardman !^NavFont01F0016MGHHG56MG58HG68MG6AHJm4A5D

Hi Martin, btw… Never did get to see your Enttools? Oh well… In answer to your questions. We have a sort of Franchise going here. 3D Artists and Animators Tampa – 3DAATB (Tampa Bay) run by Jeff Reisner Raleigh – 3DAANC (North Carolina) run by Dave Boddy Hartford – 3DAACT (Connecticut) run by Me! 1. Monthly newsletter (the Artifact) Feature of the month (tips or techniques on a particular theme) Question and Answer time Usually a short video (multimedia?) Group business Demo and discussion on latest IPAS Raffle (most vendors have been very generous as far as providing us with nfr copies of their routines that we in turn give a demo of and then raffle off.) 2. We have managed to keep our group dues-free as a result of the response to the raffle. 3. I would suppose that you could say that the vendors (Digimation, Schreiber, HSC, Watcom, Autodesk) all who have contributed ARE our sponsers. 4. Contact Kathy Clinton for more info on how Autodesk can help out. We sure would like to have you become 3DAA(Sweeden) ;-). Lee Steel
