#Network Problems
7 messages in this thread
At work we run novell network software through three servers one
espicially for our eight pentium 90 3d studio work stations and slaves, we have
two odd problems the first is we cannot get the Flare IPAS to work through
network renderering, and the second, is that our server goes down too often
when network rendering, does anyone know of any common problems 3d studio has
when run with Novell?
What version of flare_i.ixp are you using?

not sure exactly which version, it was there when I started working a little
less then a year ago. what is the latest?
FLARE2_I.IXP is the latest (should be dated sometime in March, '94).

I think some machines have flare2_i.ixp and flare1_i.ixp. Should the
flare1_i.ixp be deleted and only flare2_i.ixp be put on all network machines?,
Have you had any reports of trouble using 3ds4 with novell network software?
Thanks,
J. Giannasio
Hi Joseph,
<< Should the flare1_i.ixp be deleted and only flare2_i.ixp be put on all

You really do want the same version of any IPAS routine on every machine in
your netword rendering environment.

Many individuals use Novel successfully with 3ds4.

You really do need to have all of the most recent version of flare on all
slaves. The two versions of lens flare handle the color space interpolation
differently. If using release 3 or higher and using the older flare, those
frames will be rendered at 8 bit color which results in sever banding. Having
different versions could also cause a "flashing" of the video as the 8 bit
frames are played back with the true color frames.
