#Internal Error
12 messages in this thread
When I try to OPEN an AVI, FLC, BMP or basically any file that I created in
Animator Pro or 3d Studio etc I get an
"ANIMATOR STUDIO – INTERNAL ERROR" immediately after it starts the
Conversion process.
I changed to the Windows VGA driver and same thing happenned.
Any ideas ?
Thank you
Hi Cyrus,
I am guessing that we're dealing with problems left over from the GPF days a
week or so back that you were having. I'm tempted to suggest reinstalling
AAStudio again (well, I hope you have the CD version!) to see if that fixes it.
I am able to create AAPro and 3DS files and have it work okay. Trying the VGA
driver is a good trick – it's failing there too so I guess we're not looking at
a video problem.
I know you were asked about your swap file and system resources – are
they still optimal? Has something changed them? If you can boot up
plain (well, the CONFIG.SYS can have Files=40 and the HIMEM.SYS line
for Windows, but that's it) and duplicate the problem, do you mind
letting us know via the AASBUG..TXT file here in the forum? It asks
for a bit of info that might help QA track it down.
Sorry you're running into problems again.
It appears that Animator Studio requires a great deal of spare hard disk space.
I increased this and the problem went away.
However, I am having problems with larger files. I know you will tell me to
keep to smaller files but this is not always possible or practical.
This is what I tried to do:-
I loaded a 34MB AVI file and tried to save it as a FLIC. After it was about 75%
through, an "INTERNAL ERROR MESSAGE" appeared.
As the file I am loading is much smaller than my RAM, a swap file should not
theoretically be necessary.
My system is as follows:
Free system resources before going into ANIMATOR STUDIO is 72%.
TOTAL 56 MB RAM
40 MB permanent swap file
Files=100
Free hard disk space 75 MB
Any ideas ?

Thank you for taking the trouble to look into this.

Hi Cyrus,
QA looked at your problems, and came up with the following. By the way, I am
not sure of the "list" referrred to, but we'll get one started with you on it!
"Nik —
Your comments and suggestions all seem to be on target. With the
extra memory for UNDO, and general overhead, I seem to recall Rob
saying we needed 4X the file size to operate on it! We should have
better memory/error reporting in C1. Put Cyrus on the list for a free
update. If its still a problem, we'll enter a bug.
On the Wacom report, there is a known bug in Wintab.DLL (not ours)
that resets the tablet settings. We don't have problems with the
cursor jumping, or lagging (except with Clone Ink) but they should get
the latest driver from Wacom. We have Wintab.DLL dated 3/95. There is a
beta version around, but one programmer with it had to reinstall
Windows…
Thanks for following this up.
Best wishes
Cyrus
A bit more about the "list" – make sure you've registered your copy of
AAStudio. Thanks!
Thanks for the reminder – it's in the post !

some basic things to check… how much harddisk space do you have free, and how
big is your Windows permanent/temporary swap file? are you running under
Windows 3.1 (or other flavor?). do any of the images or flics or movies that
come with AAS load properly?

Yes, the movie files that come with AS load fine.

it requires a _ton_ of free harddisk space. <g>

yup. don't i know it.

theoretically, you are right. but it is necessary because of the way it was
written. the equation is RAMx3… pump that swap way up!

only other suggestions at the moment are, start brand new session of AAS,
possibly even windows, before working on huge animations. resources do not
recover until exit. ive found that i can duplicate this error even with small
animations if i open close open close open etec … you can watch the resources
drop by the session from manager. your system look fine. i think your free
harddisk space could use an increase though (i try to have file sizex3 free on
a fresh session). AAS is definitely not your typical windows app. <g>

Going out to buy another hard disk ……………. !!!
Thanks for your tips.
