#filtered shadows

Jonai,
kaip einas sunkus darbai?
It would be nice if shadow maps could be filtered. I noticed a lot of
scintillation in shadows cast by a shade trellis ( essentially a rectangular
grid) when moving up to it from a distance. Would it be possible to filter ray
traced shadows as well or is that an oxymoron.

I found a 3DS.set setting called Shadow-Sample-Range that has a range or 1-10
and a default of 3, pg. 44 in the Installation Guide, that may or may not help
your scintillation. I'd be very interested in your test results in trying to
minimize the anomaly.

I passed this one past Gary and..
" We're currently doing as much filtering as possible with mapped shadows, and
it's not possible to use the same filtering techniques with raytraced shadows.

BTW.. I liked your contributions this year for the Siggraph reel…jonas[adesk]

This is also accessible from within 3DS under global shadow control and
spotlight shadow map settings as "Map sample range."
