#realistic humans…
12 messages in this thread
Hi everybody and anybody,
My partner and I are considering buying 3DS so we can deal with
(manipulate, create) realistic human (child and adult) figures. From what
little we have seen 3DS seems to do a good job of this, but we are now looking
for somebody that can provide us with specific examples of what we need so that
we can make up our minds on investing in this product.
If intrested please reply or email me at jgrayson@u.washington.edu
thanks in advance

Hi John,
I'm going to ask a few more questions so the forum can jump in on this…
<< My partner and I are considering buying 3DS so we can deal with (manipulate,

3DS is used in a variety of ways by architects, broadcast, forensics, game
development, etc… What does *realistic* mean here?
<< specific examples of what we need >>
Examples of hardware requirements? additional software? additional books or
training?

Jonas,
thanks for the response. The reason we are considering 3DS is because
we have seen a few pictures in magazines and demos that lead us to believe that
3DS is the application we are looking for. In the may issue of Computer
Graphics World we saw a partial torso that was created with MetaReyes 2.0 IPAS
plug-in and decided to find out more about 3DS. We are aware of the
requirement for running 3DS but we are more concerned with the final product
and the total time involved to reach that point. Since both my partner and I
are new in this field, and understand that learning to use 3DS might take us a
while, we need to find somebody that can put together a couple of sample humans
(complete) so we can make up our minds about the investment. The degree of
realism must be very high, similar to the file 'metap2.jpg' that I found in
this forum. If you can put us in contact with somebody that can help us it
would be greatly appreaciated.
Again, what we are looking for is just a couple af samle figures (and the cost
involved in creating them, of course).
thanks in advance,
John D. Grayson

John,
you might talk to Viewpoint Datalabs at 800-DATASET or 801-229-3000. They do
custom modelling. Some are cyberscans (laser scanner) and some are just custom
modelled to your design. Most other models are for entertainment use, including
I set I created. There are some nice mannequins call "Humanoid" from Crestline
Software/Tim Wilson who frequents this forum – his ads can be found in some
animation magazines.
If you are talking about making your own, it's going to be a long steep
learning curve in any package.
Martin
Martin,
thanks for the info, We'll try to contact them. Any other info for a
couple of begginners would be greatly appreciated.
again, thanks

John,
There is detailed info and sample images of HUMANOID in the ANVENA
forum – NEW ANIM VENDOR library. Just search it with the keyword CRESTLINE, to
pull them up. If you have any questions let me know.

Tim –
Rather than continuously referring members to another forum, why don't you
upload a small sample of a HUMANOID image here? You are also welcome to put
vendor information in a library file in Take5 that you can point people to.
Thanks – Anne
Tim,
I don't know if you've heard, but we're launching a new magazine called 3D
Design, which will debut in October. Can I bug you to put me on your press list
and get information to me? I'm moving from CADENCE to 3D Design.
Thanks!
Kelly
If you have the time Metaballs works great for modeling human form , and
clothing. Using Bones Pro to animate the the human, and make the clothing move
with the the human form. Also using Pupetteer for the bones creation.
I've done this with a project for a new game. I have a fully clothe female
with a dress separate from her. I have the bones controlling her , and a
separate set of bones controlling her dress . This effect came out very nice.

Mike,
That sounds cool. I'll probably drop you a private line and ask you some more.
Thanks for the tip.

Sure, If you have questions feel free to ask. Soon as I get approval from the
company I put the animation up on ASOFT.
