This only applies to folks who have Gateway 2000 computers, but, if you
do, I want to alert you that their Peripherals Department is currently
selling the latest 300kbs XA and Kodak multisession CD ROM drive from Sony
for $239. Nobody who isn't a registered Gateway owner can buy one, but
anybody who is can. While, again, this applies only to a few, I thought I'd
pass it along, as they tried to sell one to me today while I was ordering
my long-lusted for second hard disk….

Yes. 150k bps, not 300. Photo CD multisession yes, OS2 no.
Could be. It was part of the voice mail offers they give while you're on
hold in Customer Service!
They have several really fine prices on various items, but no list of
them. You have to call the 800 Customer Service number and wait — the
specials will feed while you're on hold–and then ask if you didn't hear
what you're looking for.
RAM's back up to $75 a meg! Seems the government decided to put a big
tariff on it again in spite of the fact that there's no domestic suppliers.
When will they ever learn?
Shop around for better RAM prices. The tariff hasn't been enacted yet, and
it probably won't be. In addition, it only affects Korean chip makers,
which only account for 10-20% of US RAM shipments. All this price hike
stuff is pure sales b.s.

Yeah, Pournelle (That's not a _bab_ word is it?) was talking about
it in his column. Maybe I should make a quick investment. I can still buy
4X9 70ns SIMMS here for $129 and the others are comparable.

I was going to ask you if you know Pournelle.
I think I will be getting the extra memory from Gateway because the
Micronics board takes 70 pin memory, and I don't know if this is readily
available elsewhere.
I loved your comments to the disgruntled one. I'm sure they would have
pulled the plug on me if I had responded. You guys said it much better than
I, so I left it at that. I too, was ROFWL.
