Sony CDU 31A HELP!
5 messages in this thread
Somebody please help. I've purchased a Sony CDU 31A CD Rom drive that came
packaged with a Sound Commander Pro card by a company called Media Sonic.
The card installation and checkout was really not a problem, but the Sony
installation diskette and documentation are just about worthless. Totally
frustrating and confusing. They've refered to .sys files that don't appear
in the directory, and if I run the setup program, it ends with a wimper.
Then I presume to try to access the D: cd, and I get told drivers are not
installed. I'm all the way out here on Guam, and no local service is
available. Does anybody have any experience with this particular model?
So far its not worth a tinker's damn to me, and I'm absolutely mind-blown
that Sony would deliver such a useless excuse for documentation.
I don't have all the answers, but you might want to review Laser3.txt in
Lib #4; it has a lot of info about installing and tweaking a Sony 7205
which is quite similar to yours. Hope it helps!

Have you had any luck from this forum or from the people at Sony.
The CD drive is a bit slow but it was inexpensive by Canadian
standards and was multisession compatible for Photo CD.

I got a hold of the Sony Peripherals Products Company (408) 955-4343. They
have a BBS (2400-N-8-1) (408) 955-5107. They said the reason my CD won't
put video up is the responsibility of the interface card manufacturer
MediaVison. I contacted them and they were quick to volunteer a mailing of
a driver that I found missing from my install diskette. Can you believe
that? They delivered the package with a driver missing. Well, It hasn't
arrived out here on Guam yet. But in the meantime I've discovered there
are misnamed directoried I had to sort out in order to make it all play
when the driver gets here. Also, I've learned that the driver theyv'e
promised to send relates only to getting sound off the CD. The video
problem is yet unaddressed so far as I can surmise. In the meantime I am
dead in the water without a clue as to where to startlooking, or what to
start looking for. I'd like to tell the whole world not to buy the package
I bought with the Sony CD 31A drive and the MediaVision Sound Commander Pro
Card. Together they are worthless as delivered.
It really is to bad that you got such a screwed up combination. Mine was
sold as a
bare drive with its (Sony) host adapter and sound cables for the
Soundblaster Pro.
It had Compton's Encyclopedia bundled with it as well. All in all it works
well but no
real thanks to Sony. Once all the drivers and other help from this forum
it really does work well.
