#SIGGRAPH / Hotels

Alan:
Do you have any suggestions on a convenient hotel for the SIGGRAPH show?
Bob
When I checked a couple of weeks ago, ATI travel said all the SIGGRAPH hotels
were all booked up, and they were arranging for more. The finally sent me a
reservation that was way too expensive for me, so I just made my own
reservation through EASY SAABRE here on compuserve. My hotel is only 1.2 miles
from the convention, too.
Bob,
Try calling the Siggraph housing folks at 800/477/7514.

Hey Alan:
I got my plane tickets now and need to register for the show and get a car and
room. They want $25 before June 30th. I can't remember but isn't there some
free passes usually available? What about the party? Would you post the
locationm and some directions to get there?
Looking forward to seeing you again.
Second thanks for introducing me to all the forum lurkers last year.
PS: anyone looking to save some bucks for the convention nights: Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday? Consider splitting a room? E-mail me to discuss
further. I am traveling alone and arriving the week before but will be
sightseeing out of town.
Hi Don,
Free passes…Hmmm, I've actually got one left here that the folks at
Digimation sent me…If you want, I'll send it to you. But in order to get the
badge sent and keep you from standing in line at the show it needs to be sent
in before June 30. Send me your FedEx number if you wish and I'll get it out to
you right away.
As usual, there are two (that I know of) 3DS-related parties. One being the big
Adesk bash on Tuesday night (you'll get an invitation with details soon) and
the other being the ASOFT thing on Sunday night. It'll be held at the Grand
Avenue Sports Lounge in the Biltmore Hotel, 506 S. Grand Avenue in Downtown LA
near the convention center, so you should be able to find it quite easily, I
should think. No invitation needed. Sorry, but I don't have specific directions
from anywhere.
The forum party is alway a blast as it lets folks speak in person after perhaps
months of only electronic communication. Also, Adesk and Yost group notables
always attend and it's quite nice to see these people in an informal setting.
Everyone is encouraged to bring samples of their work. I've been promised the
use of a large-screen TV and VCR, so we'll see how that pans out.
Anyway, c'mon down and meet LOTS of forum folk from all over, and have a real
good time!
See you there,
-Alan
Don, You still looking for a roomate? Or two? Give me a hollar if you are.
DM
Sure.
I'm only interested for the days of the Siggraph. I'll be in LA on thursday
night but I will be out of town visiting Fri, Sat, and Sunday. What is your
itinerary?
Don, You mean Thursday the 3rd? I will be there Sunday the 6th sometime… I'm
driving from Milwaukee. <g> Can't afford air fare. I'm planning on leaving
probably on Wednesday the 9th to return home. Sound ok? Do you already have a
room?
DM
I don't have a room. I plan to confirm my reservations(airfare) this weekend.
Since my plans must remain flexible I am not making any hotel reservations.
The only specific is Tuesday and Wednesday for the show. I will be leaving
Thursday morning. So we could share the room cost for Monday night thru
Wednesday night. Does this sound doable? When I travel I seldom make hotel
reservations as I find exploring local accomodations better suits my style.
When I travel with the family its different.
Don, Well, since I'm going to be getting there Sunday night I don't think it
will work out. Besides, since 30,000+ people will be attending I don't think
just popping in and finding a room is going to be an easy accomplishment. I'm
going to go ahead and try to get a room this week. If you'd like to still stay
with us you're more than welcome. Otherwise, if you still want to look around
when you arrive let me know. I guess this means you won't be making the AMMEDIA
party. Too bad, I think it's going to be a blast. Anyway, talk to ya later.

In all my experience in going to trade shows I've never had the difficulty in
getting a room as everyone has cited these horror stories. I agree that
getting a specific room at a specific hotel may be chancy but I tend to be very
flexible in my travels. I realize I might not be able to get the presidential
suite at the Omni, however. <BG>
I will try to make all parties but do have some visiting appointments on non
trade show days.
We'll stay in touch.
