I have the HP XL300 printer and have loaded the driver, used the SET
statement, etc. I can print low res, but as soon as I get much above
1000×2200, I can neither render to the printer or to a file. I get the
error message "Can't allocate image buffer" followed by "init of driver
failed". I have plenty of free disk, and adequate memory (32MB). What's
going on? Is there some magic to the set resolution ratio (besides being
the right aspect ratio for the image)?
Also, what Windows paint programs can handle files of these dimensions
without locking up?

The old "can't allocate image buffer" is telling you that you need more
memory and disk space. 32 megs is not enough for the size images you are
trying to create. I have had still images that required in excess of 100
megs of memory to render! It's not that hard to do!
Look on pages 74 and 75 of your installation/performance guide for specific
info on memory requirements.
