Just for reference…
About 4 months ago, I set the clock in Insider to the NBS time signal
(it's a local phone call for me) and then checked it a week later…it was
still right on. Since I saw your message tonight about the chip accuracy of
several of the clock devices, I thought I'd go check to see how Insider is
holding up. It's now 3 seconds slow from NBS…that's not bad! 3 seconds in 4
months (or so) means that over the life of the clock chip on Insider (10 years)
it might be a whole 2 minutes off by the time the battery dies!
My A-time on the other hand, on odd occasions (I could never get a
pattern) would suddenly lose a whole month! The clock accuracy (Time of Day)
would drift about 2 seconds per month. I will say that I have one of the
earlier A-Time's and mine does have a trimmer cap (and the replaceable battery)
if I were so inclined to adjust it. I understand Akron used 2 different chips,
unfortunately…I have no idea which chip is in mine since both chips have no
part numbers on them. If it matters, the board in my A-Time says v2.0.

I know for a fact that 90% of the A-Time out there have the 58321-AA
chip. Some of the first ones had the provision for either the original
OKI 58321 with external pot and crystal, or the 58321 series with on-board
pot and crystal (so that they will not restrict themselves to one
company). Remember that these are guaranteed from the chip manufacturer
to be within the limits that I mentioned. So both the insider clock and
A-Time are pre-manufactured and tested to within these specs. You may want
to check with them to see if you can get the 58321-AA part. On the other
hand you are not loosing as much with your insider so it should be ok.
My first "smartwatch" from the insider was loosing something like 6 min/week
but the new one looses only 10 sec/week. Still, I probably could have lived
with that if I hadn't had A-Time already.

I've got the pot and external crystal, so obviously one of the first
ones (serial #651) out. I don't even use A-Time any more, so no big deal on
it's accuracy and as you can see, my Insider clock is plenty accurate of
anything I can think of.
(Know anyone who want's an A-Time? <grin>)

After downloading the file that Larry suggested (Funckeys in DL9), I
wonder if it would be worth doing a 'must have' list, of the most used
programs from the Data libraries. I mean, a real MUST! HAVE! list. Maybe 10
prg at max. I don't see how I could have missed that one. That list could
also help a lot of newcommers to the Amiga. What do you think?
On a different note. What about someone to buy my Timesaver, insider,
starboard, A-time, and Xebec controller (I'll keep the drive for the 2000). I
already have the person for my Amiga + genlock <double grin>. The worst is
the waiting for the 2000 (Lucky Larry <triple grin>).

I'm glad you found Funckeys worth the downloading. I do consider it a MUST
HAVE! and will pass your comments on to Anson when I see him Wed evening at the
Panorama meeting.
The problem with a "Must Have" list is that there are so many different needs
among Amiga owners. We are trying to compile one now, but it isn't an easy
task.

I still think, you guys should be able to come up with a few programs that
are used in a daily basis. If you do, remember to update it with the new
versions in a regular basis.

The main problem is that what is a MUST HAVE for a CLI user is often useless
for a WB user. Then there are the graphics fans, music fans, etc. We'll come up
with something, not to worry.
