I have been thinking of buying a used A2000 and understand that
there are several different versions of the motherboard, some
that will allow the upgraded graphics chips and some that won't.
How can I tell which is which ?

The only revisions to the A2000 (specifically B2000) motherboard that I
am aware of have been very minor in nature. The only two things that I would
watch out for if I were you (and neither are _extremely_ critical, both can be
fixed with some $$ or wire-cutters)…
are 1) that hopefully it has the newer keyboard (Larger function keys.)
and 2) that it has a nice clean picture. (a very small percentage of the early
A2000's had a problem with a fuzzy picture do to some enlarged Ferrite beads
that are easily removed)
