Greg, Yes, Perry has made that comment, but he clarified it by saying that he had _heard_ that the startup routines _might_ trash vd0: by doing destructive testing every 64K on the expansion RAM located at c00000. He did not know that for sure at the time he left the messages here. My experience was that my A1000 with Insider worked perfectly with it's ram addressed at c00000. I ran quite a few tests with various sized files in vd0: and they all survived properly. I did have a very few initial problems…but that was related to the design of Insider where it held off refresh during a Reset. Dean Brown at Michigan Software had an immediate fix for that…and the fix was incorporated into their boards right away. Since I had board serial #3, the problem was caught very early in their manufacturing (they were still hand made back then) and corrected. The one way to test for a problem like this…is to do a very quick tap of the right Amiga key while holding down the left Amiga key and CTRL key. That will keep the reset very short and most RAM will survive not being refreshed during that time period. Holding down all three keys for over 1 second thou will clear the ram since it also holds off refresh for that long on boards designed that way. Don
