Help. I am new to CompuServe and modems in general. I recently received
my modem (SupraModem 2400) as a birthday present and have spent some time
exploring Compuserve. I have A-Talk III and think that I have it all set up
correctly since I am able to access CompuServe. However, when I try to get
into "Weather" I seem to run into a brickwall and don't know how to answer
the prompts or how to upload or download whatever it is I need to get. Any
assistance anyone has would really be appreciated. Also — in "exploring"
this forum I read mention of something called Whap! Whap! which is similar
to the CompuServe Information Manager. How does one go about getting that?
Please, be patient and be specific…..sometimes I feel so dumb and
computer illiterate. Thank you in advance for any help. This forum seems
as if it will open up a whole new world for me!

Welcome to the Amiga Forum. We're glad to have you here.
On AtalkIII, look at your TRANSFER menu, find Protocols, and see if you
have it set up so that the xpr protocols show up. On my copy they are a
different color from the other protocols. You need it to show 'bplus' as
one of the protocols. If that does not show up, then you need to get
'xprbplus.library' from Library 5 of AmigaUser and put it in your libs:
directory. That will give you the best protocol to use here. In the
meantime, if you don't have xprbplus yet, use YModem. It will work bettr
than XModem will, and CompuServe does not have ZModem.
For weather, your AtalkIII cannot directly display the weather maps. Most
people just download them and then view them with a viewer. It takes about
the same amount of time, and then you have them for further study if you
wish.
Whap! is in Library 9 of AmigaVendor, as is AutoPilot. If you are using
2.x of the operatiing system, get AutoPilot. For 1.3, you will have to use
Whap! Both of these are CompuServe specific automated programs that will
download all your email and message base messages, software, etc., let you
read and answer it offline, and then when you sign back on, it will upload
your message to the right place in the message base. Both are really neat,
but if you have 2.04, you definitely want AutoPilot.
