Hard Drive Speed

I doubt that the access speed is giving the doubling of effective transfer rate. Rather your drive is running with MFM media and the SCSI drive is running with RLL. That would account for the noted speed. Belive me, I can take a 120ms drive and get a faster effective transfer rate than a 18ms drive. How? Use an Omti 3527 controllor with the 120ms, and a Adaptec AC4000 controllor with the 18ms drive. Access time becomes a factor only if the head is traveling over large areas of the disk. And then you may see only a 5-15% speed difference. [Mark]
