#Whap! –> Access!

Okay, I know what was happening. When Acc!.def was still in my root directory
it wasn't loading, as we know. After I moved it into the s directory, the ONLY
thing I checked, (and it's pretty important!) was the baud rate which defaults
to 9600. As I now realize there is apparently no way to change that default,
and Acc!.def WAS loading my parameters. I just didn't know it. Then it would
hang. You state very clearly in the docs to "make sure you are set at the
correct baud rate." I just read right past it. Sorry.
It's working fine now. But since Access! and Whap! seem to make such a great
team, it might be nice to find a way so the baud rates automatically adjust.
Maybe Whap! could give control to Access! earlier, and let it do the dialing
from a phone book entry set at whatever baud rate matched Whap's settings. Is
that possible?

Access gets its default baud rate from Preferences. Go into Preferences
and set it at the baud rate you want then save preferences.
If you don't have Preferences on your Whap disk boot up any disk that
does have it. Go into Preferences, set for the baud rate of choice, save. Then
COPY DEVS:system-configuration WHAP:devs. Next time you boot your Whap disk
Access will come up with the 'correct' baud rate.

I've read your messages with great interest. You're not the only one who read
right past that 9600 Baud stuff. Maybe now I too can get access! to run behind
Whap!. Oh, well, live and learn, right?

The two programs are working fine together now. But these last couple of days
have not been the best time to test new comm software on CIS, have they?
Delays… system going down in the middle of the afternoon… Whew!

I'll find out right after this if my ACCESS! is working behind Whap!. I've been
using ACCESS! now for a couple of weeks. Guess it's time to register. Unless
Whap! does something untoward within the next few days, I'll register for it
too. I sorta like being able to try out software before buying it. Lord knows

Thanks, I'll look forward to your registration! That was the whole purpose
in releasing Access! as ShareWare, to give people a fairly powerful program at
a reasonable cost and to let them "try before they buy" it.
The documentation is not of the best quality, but I don't "ghost" out items
or otherwise criple the program (currently) waiting for registrations. In other
-words I depend on the honesty of the people using it to see the value in it
(if any) and then help me pay my rent/grocery-bill.
The responce to date has been somewhat less than encouraging compared to
the number of people actually _using_ it. I'm in no way trying to pick on you
personally, your message just gave me a soap-box to stand on <grin>.
While I'm up here, I'd like to thank everyone who HAS put food on my table,
every little bit is MUCH appreciated and will help steer my future markiting
decisions (*marketing).

Well, I don't know how long ACCESS! has been out, but I only heard about it a
few weeks ago while I was reading the mail during a conference session. I hope
that enough people register to make it worth your time. I fully support the
Shareware concept. Now if someone would only write a good, amigatized CAD
program……

I know about getting suckered by fancy packaging, and I too appreciate being
able to try before I buy. Whap! and Access! are a winning combination.
Register both. Not only are they good programs, but you can actually get
answers to questions from the autrhors themselves, rather than anonymous voices
on the big boys' technical lines who may or may not really know what they're
talking about. This is Horse's Mouth Software, and should be supported with
lots of hay.

I agree. Only problem I have with WHAP! is that it's enticing me to call CIS
more often. My Visa bill is gonna be hellatious!
Prior to WHAP!, I was seriousy considering dropping my CIS membership because I
was tired of looking at the menues and fighting my way around and thru the
system to get to the few messages and files that were of interest to me. WHAP!
is a godsend to people who, like me, don't have the time or money to learn the
whole host of CIS commands.
In my humble opinion, WHAP! brings us a step closer to making computers (at
least Amigas) into usefull tools instead of expensive, time consuming toys.
If only the docs were are userfriendly as the program itself. I have surprised
myself in that I now have a bootable disk that allows me to turn on my Amiga,
kickstart it, stick in my WHAP! disk into df0:, my DATA: disk into DF2:, and
go! (My DF1: is a 5.25 drive where I keep some utilities). Putting together
this WHAP!/ACCESS! disk taught me a few things about AmigaDos I didn't know
before.
As you can see, my messages are getting verbose, now that I can compose them
off-line, while reading the message I'm replying to. Ain't this great?

palce, but it has absolutely exploded in the last 2 years.

An interesting little side note – CIS did a survey when TAPCIS was being
used. It was found that programs such as Whap! increased revenue as users
would call in more often. In this case, it's a win-win proposition, as the
user get's more effecient use of CIS, allowing him to _use_ it effectively, and
CIS gets increased revenue due to increased use. Instead of taking a half hour
or more to go to the forum, read messages, answer, possibly download a file or
whatever which would force the user into budgeting for weekly use, Whap! and
its ilk allow _daily_ use, cutting down session time to the bare minimum. Both
parties win. It also allows those that never even _thought_ of using the
message base a _VERY_ effective and cheap method to now become active on it.

Excellent! A program of this quality should have docs to do with it. I'm sure
that once people with less expertise get a hold of docs which allow them to
start using WHAP!, you'll have a bunch more users (and hopefully registrations
to go along with that).

Jim you need to have in your reply editor a command to let you go back to the
message your writing if you decide that originate is not what you wanted to do
but stay in the thread your replying to, also I accidently hit both the left
amiga key and ALT while the pointer was on Originate and I lost the beginning
half of my reply. How about an UNDO or something similar? You know it also
would be nice if you could navigate off-line with the CIS commands just as if
you were ON-line.
