I guess it's time for a drop carrier timeout.
I don't know why it stopped but do know why CompuServe didn't disconnect.
When Whap! times out, it sends a ^Q in case the expect prompt was garbled by
line noise and part of that line noise was a ^S. CompuServe will drop you
after 10 minutes of inactivity (except in CO). However, since the ^Q was being
sent, there was no inactivity.
