#ST296 / A2090 trouble

Anyone….
Help! I just iinstalled a new ST296N in my 2000 using an A2090 controller
(while I'm waiting for my HardFrame2000). After a week, the ST296N stopped
working. My old MiniScribe 8225 still accesses fine (when the Seagate isn't
connected to the controller). When BindDrivers executes, the Seagate activity
led flashes 5 times and the constantly flickers at a high rate.
My question is this: Is it possible the 2090 could have developed a
problem in the SCSI circuitry that would not effect the ST506 stuff, or should
I be preparing to ship the Seagate back?

Get ready to ship it back….5 flashes means:
Data Buffer RAM test failed.
This is a problem with the Seagate, not the A2090.

Pardon me- I have a question, assuming this discussion is about the HD light
blinking upon being powered up. What does it mean if the light blinks eight
times? I already replaced my HD, but I'm curious as to what was wrong with it.

I'd love to tell you…but I cleaned up my room last night, and
inadvertently threw away the sheet with the information on what the error codes
were for Seagate drives. My memory is that 8 had something to do with
maintaining speed within a certain percentage.
This only delt with Seagates…other drives have other codes. I do
have the codes for MiniScribes 8425's if anyone is interested.

Eight flashes means that the drive was unable to load its operating system
from the drive. Here's the whole list…
Flashes Meaning
——- ——1 Failed internal memory test
2 Failed ROM checksum test
3 Failed controller chip test
4 Failed program RAM test
5 Failed data buffer RAM test
6 Drive unable to attain or maintain spindle speed
7 Unable to find/read SECTOR ID MARK
8 Unable to read O/S code from drive
9 Bad O/S code read from drive
