Yep, and when we talked to them we got the same deranged mail order reply: how
much will you pay us to sell it? will you do all our advertising? will you
cover all our costs? will you bail us out if we do something wrong?
Will you eat our food for us and perform our bodily functions for us? Sheesh.

Actually for me, the closest authorized Amiga dealer is just 70 miles away
in West Columbia, SC. In GA, it would be in Athens, GA. To travel to
Gainesville would be about 150 miles one way. Same for Savannah, Ga.
As for Commodore's PC line, I would assume that you know that you can get
the PC Colt at Toys-'R-Us or the PC20 line at Service Merchandise in Augusta.
I've dealt with three different Commodore dealers in three different states,
and the one in Augusta is the first one I've ever met who did not sell
Commodore computers. The two dealers you mention in you message to me showed
up in the listing of dealers in the Service Forum for Commodore.
Since you're not in favor of mail-ordering an Amiga, how about an authorized
Amiga dealer who also handles mail orders? I've come across a few of those,
notably located in the Northeast or California. They are not the cheapest, but
they are Authorized Amiga dealers.
The cheapest mail-orders prices I've come across for the A2000 and A1084S
system delivered to SC are ComputAbility – $1769, Creative Computers – $1819,
Sprite Technology (GA) – $1829 and Briwall – $1839. The first two are charging
no shipping or handling for the system. Shipping charges are what killed J & R
Music World's quote. They would charge $55 for the system.
