#Battery Dead?

Has anyone had a problem with there clock battery on an A2000. I've had my amiga for over year and a half without clock problems. Now when I run Setclock load , I receive an error prompt, "Battery Backed up clock not found". when I do a why command after this, I receive an error 788672259. Is my battery dead? Where is it located, and can it be replaced without technical expertise. Thanks for any advice. -Scott.

Scott, This problem has been mentioned on just about all the networks at one time or another. A few people have reported that running the 1.2 SetClock program cured theirs. I believe it is caused by some badly behaved program accidentally changing one bit in the clock or some such. (I have that explanation saved here – SOMEwhere, but not easily found just this minute.) I was wondering myself, Betty. Any idea where the battery is in an A2000? I didn't see anything about it in the docs.

Leslie, The Battery is on the front of the motherboard, just to the left (or slightly under) the drive/power supply bridge. The Battery is probably blue in color (mine is), looks like a short fat caterpiller (it appears to be segmented with shrink wrap over it) and it's SOLDERED in. Once you know what you're looking for, it's a piece of cake to find it. Don

Sorry – I have no idea. There is a book for technical information about the A500 and A2000 – I think it costs about $40, and I believe it has a schematic in it. I don't have that book, however. Betty

Betty, did anyone ever figure out why some clock programs cause the 'software' clock to run fast (mine gains 1 minute per hour wall time)? Ron

Thanks Betty , 1.2 setclock did the trick. I would love to know he name of any programs that would corrupt the clock. Also, should I just use version 1.2 setclock instead of 1.3 setclock. Thanks -Scott

Scott, once you have the clock re-set, you can go back to the 1.3 version. It is a rather rare thing for that bit to get changed, I think. Betty
