Don,
I am hoping that the new software that GVP is sending will be a little
more extensive and I will be able to map the bad sectors. But if not how can I
tell how many bad sectors per meg I have?
David
David,
Take the number of bad sectors you know about, and look at the size of
your drive. Most drives have bad sector maps on them (although many embedded
SCSI drives don't)….just count them.
However, what I'd be most concerned with isn't the known factory
defects….I'd become concerned if my 20 Meg drive developed an additional 20
bad sectors beyond the factory defects. It's not at all unusual for a drive to
develop a bad sector after usage…it's only unusual if it develops a large
number of them.
