Recently I purchased a MiniScribe 3053 hard drive that I've been having quite a bit of problems with and was wondering if anyone else has this drive. I purchased this drive back in March and about 2 months later it bit the dust. What would happen is when I turned on my Amiga, the drive would spin up and try to go through its initialization but then would start flashing its led at a certain rate/sequence. I suspected that this was a drive error code and a call to MiniScribe confirmed this. So I boxed it up and sent it back in the first of June. Well finally 6 weeks later I got another 3053 which is apparently a rebuilt unit since its not the same serial number. Well it operated about 2 days and then it started doing the same thing again! Does anyone think it could be the 2090 controller causing the HD to bite the dust? My gut feelings is that its not but its more likely a design flaw in the 3053 or poor quality control on the part of MiniScribe. I know all of their products are not that way since I have a 20meg external that I purchased when I had my 500 and it contains a 8425S that hasn't given me one single error in over a year and a half of use (knock on wood!). Any ideas or comments would be appreciated because I'm getting to the point of throwing that 3053 out the window and buying a 40meg Quantum! Oh, BTW the 3053 is a 40meg ST-506 type of drive. Thanks!
