#2090/Adaptec formatting

HELP!
Does anyone have , know of, or want to write a utility that will allow me to
do a low levelformat of the Adaptec 4070 SCSI controller through the 2090?
How bout using a Bernoulli box? I got 2 of em but they hang when the 2090
tries to prep. I really need 3 utilities that should be easy:
1. send 1 hex byte at a time to/from 2090 scsi port
2. replacement for Amigados format that only writes and verifies, no format.

I have an Iomega Bernoulli 10+10 on my ms-dos side of the A2000. Works
fine there. I don't see how it could be used from the Amiga side off the 2090
as it is neither an ST-506 device nor a SCSI device. My Iomega is about 5
years old so maybe yours is different. I have not had any luck trying to
partition it either as it does not allow me to use the ms-dos program "fdisk".
I'd be very interested in hearing what you come up with, because there just may
be an upgrade path that I could use so I could get the Amiga and Iomega
chatting.

Bernoulli's come in SCSI and ST506, as well as their own interface.

Actually, they are all SCSI now, but used to be SASI. (sounds kinda dirty!)

Speaking of SASI… how compatible is SCSI with SASI? I have a bunch of SASI
host adapters and controllers laying around that might come in handy if the
2090 would handle them.

SASI is susposed to be a subset of SCSI, however the guys at Emulex
tell me that they see quite a bit of incompatability. It the subset is a
'real' implementation then by judicious selection of SCSI commands you should
be able to use the SASI boards that you have.
What do you have? Anything I might be interested in? Any 'spares'?

Yeah, I thought what you are doing would work, but I don't have bridge. My
Bernoullis (1/2height) ARE SCSI. just slightly non – standard.

I at one time tried to run a Bernoulli off of the CLtd SCSI controller but with
no luck (this was one of the earliest versions of their controller tho…) the
explanation for the failure was that the Bernoulli wanted a superset of SCSI
command set to manage the removable media (e.g. signalling for cartridge
removed or somesuch). This seemed reasonable at the time but I never pursued it
further as the BBox moved on. The current CLtd software v2.01 (along with a
hardware update to the controller) seems designed for more generic SCSI (e.g.
they appear to be claiming 'plug-n-play' for an SCSI tape drive but I'll
certainly check with 'em before I buy one to daisy chain onto my current
system. They are also, interestingly, selling a 10 meg removable media system
which is not described any further in my docs but which would suggest that they
have some way of handling that SCSI superset… COnfirm that old Iomega's were
SASI. In general they're much nicer that winchesters with tape combo.
Boat-anchors. Just a tad slow and (once) very pricey – now that they've got
some competition from other formats the dual 10 meg units can be found for
about $1K or so anbd the extra 10 meg cartridges are about $50. -da
