16-color Workbench
3 messages in this thread
I am having a lot of trouble trying to run a 16-color workbench. I
downloaded the 4D-ICN.LZH (or whatever) file and was trying to look at it,
but no matter what I do the system locks up or worse. At times I start
getting a high-pitched squeal from my monitor and the system clock gets
reset. Ctl-A-A will not reboot it, I have to do a power cycle.
I am running an A2000 with A2058 memory expansion @ 4 megs, an Imtronics
H2800 '030 card with 4 megs and SCSI, and a NEC multisync monitor. I run
VirusX from my startup and the HurricaneConfig program for my '030, and
that's it. The 16-color programs are c16 (the one in the 4D file) and
RasterMaster (came with my registered copy of IconMaster). I have tried
with and without the '030 being active, and with and without an interlaced
workbench. 8 colors works fine; my main problems in 16 start when I have to
open a subwindow (I believe it doesn't matter whether the window actually
contains a more-than-4-color icon or not). I also have a 1-meg agnus, so
I'm fairly (but not completely) sure that chip ram isn't the problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Harry, I'm having the same problem… I'm (one of these days, sigh) going
to try one of the _other_ 16 color wb programs out and see if the icons
will work with that. –Eet–

I was beginning to think that message didn't get posted after all …
8^). Anyway, I've gone so far as to put all the files on their own bootable
disk, with no Startup-Sequence and just enough files around so it'll boot.
I turn off my accellerator and boot from the floppy, and it _still_ locks
up the system. If you do happen to find a 16-color program that works,
please let me know where to get it. RasterMaster and C16 won't work (though
RM does OK in 8-color mode). Later …
