Hi! I just ordered Final Copy II to go with my new HP DeskJet 500-C printer on my A3000. I was wondering whether I need to purchase a RAM cartridge for the printer in order to use the outline fonts that come with Final Copy. If anyone could help, it would be most appreciated. Thanks! — Dave

Dave, You won't need to purchase any extra RAM for the printer. However, while Final Copy II has the best output of any word processor for the Amiga, be forewarned that it also has the slowest output. The amount of time it will take for your computer to finish sending the information to your printer will be less with extra printer RAM, this is especially true of smaller documents. Congratulations on your new HP DeskJet 500C! It's my third favorite color printer, right after the PaintJet XL300 (a _very_ expensive color Postscript ink-jet) and the DeskJet 550C. Unfortunately, I don't own a signle one of these fine machines. Ric Fischer SoftWood Tech Support Phoenix, Arizona, USA (602) 431-9151

Ric, You don't know of a driver for the XL300 do you, I picked one up very cheap but can only use the 180dpi driver at the moment. Apparently HP are bringing out a ps card for it. Andrew.

Andrew, To the best of my knowledge, the HP PaintJet XL300 _is_ a Postscript printer, which is why it costs so much. I know that the one at SoftWood is definitely Postscript. Both the Final Copy II internal Postscript driver and the 2.1/3.0 Postscript printer driver work just fine with it. Ric Fischer SoftWood Tech Support Phoenix, Arizona, USA (602) 431-9151

The XL300 actually comes as a colour PCL printer, the PS emulation card for it has only just become available (in the UK) perhaps it is bundled in the US, anyway its a great printer… a bit heavy though ! Andrew.

Andrew, Aye, it is heavy…and awkward to get your arms around when it needs lifting. I'll ask if ours came with Postscript or if we had to purchase a card for it. Ric Fischer SoftWood Tech Support Phoenix, Arizona, USA (602) 431-9151

Please note that Dave Arre's question was regarding the RAM Cartridge that plugs into the top panel of the deskjet. On my 500 this ram cannot be used for printer buffer RAM. On the 550 I believe that the cartridge CAN be used for printer buffer ram. In any event I wanted to warn you of this distinction as it pertains to some models of the DeskJet in case you weren't aware of it. -J
