#AmigaVision Help

Lou-
OK, you wanna give out some help on AmigaVision? Tackle this one!
For eons, I have wanted to make an application that would selectively
run through demos of the Amiga's capabilities, mixing all versions of
pictures, animations, sound files, songs, etc. I know this is a horrendous
task, given different file-formats, etc, but AV is very close by allowing
passing lines of CLI out of AV. My problem is that I can launch tasks out
this way but cannot terminate them if they don't stop themselves. Like
sending out an ESC char after sending out "DynaShow Space.pic". This goes
double for animations that can't be told to loop a number of times or for
so many seconds. There are an awful lot of non-ANIM5 anims out there, and
I've had only limited success converting them.
So: Can you tell me how to send out a character to a previously launched
task to terminate it?
Thanks,
Karl
Speaking totally out of my hat here……
Under Amydos 2.0, I believe we will be able to send out break signals using
a task name instead of number as we currenly do. (You can't count on task
numbers to be the same, time after time) This will work if the program is
setup to be "break enabled". Unfortunatley not many.
The other way is using programs that have ARexx hooks built in. This will
be THE way to do inter-process communications. Not only will you be able
to quit a program, but also control many if not all of its functions from
another task or program. The problem is that Arexx will not be standard
until Dos 2.0 and many of the nice little utilities like Dyna-show do not
have the "hooks" for it built in. New versions will have to be made
available which I'm sure will happen when 2.0 is released.
So, no easy answer for your problem right now. The standards are in place
with 2.0 and Arexx, but some catch up time will be needed for the software
to utilize it.

Does anyone know if AmigaDOS 2.0 will replace those funky MS-DOS style main
screen fonts with the classier, clearer, finer and prettier ones as found
on a Mac? That is really my main hangup with the Amiga.
Any ideas as to the release date of 2.0?
Under Amiga Dos 2.0, all of the screen fonts are replacable from
preferences.
Al,
AmigaDOS2.0 will let you choose any AMiga font you have in your directory
as the default, and you can even choose different ones for various needs.

What I find particularly funny about that statement is that the Mac fonts
are typically LESS clear, fine, and pretty when you examine them closely.
What makes the Mac fonts look better is not the font itself, but rather
that they are displayed black on white instead of vice versa. Since a
white character has noticable gaps between pixels, it doesn't look so good,
but a black character looks very nice, since the character is the color of
the gaps and thus you don't notice them. AmigaDos 2.0 CLI windows default
to black on light grey and thus look very nice.

Karl,
I'd suspect that Scripit by Khalid Aldoseri might be able to handle what
you want to do either by itself or in combination with ARexx.

David,
You may be right. I won't say I've exactly exhausted all possibilities:
I did start trying to learn Scripit. It's very powerful, but I gave up on
it for some reason; problem is, I can't remember if it was an honest
limitation (for my goal), or whether I just got side-tracked. I don't have
ARexx.
