#XT BB/386 A2500/30 Q's

Ron,
I just (finally!) got my A2500/30 with XT bridge board (yay!) I am getting
ready to install the Sota 386si board, which if memory serves, is the
configuration you have.
Any tips beyond the documentation on anything that might rise up and bite
my butt? (about the 386 si… not anyone else <grin>) Or is the doc full
and complete enough in your opinion?
Also, if ANYONE is using the NEC Multisync 3D with Flicker fixer, do you
have occassional screen jitter? My screen jumps a small and irritating
amount a couple of times every couple of minutes. If so, how did you get
tid of it?
Further, since my dealer omitted the A2091 docs and did not format an MSDOS
partition on the HD, I have not loaded any sw on the Amiga side beyond the
OS. The manual omission I'll fix ASAP by calling 'em today, but meanwhile,
how easy/tough is it to set up an MSDOS dedicated partition? What do I do?
Am I better off following the manual (when I get it)?

Gabe, if the screen jump is vertical, then the problem is probably that
your 2500 has J300 in the wrong position. The correct position for this
jumper is connecting pin 1 to 2. A significant number of 2000/2500's have
been shipped recently with this jumper connecting 2 to 3; this is incorrect
and should be changed. If the problem is "fluttering pixels" then your
flicker fixer needs adjustment. Follow the procedure in the manual using
the test pattern on the flicker fixer disk. If you need any assistance,

I don't have the 030, but most things will work the same.
Did you get extra ram for the Sota?
In general, install the Sota the way its manual says to, but be extremely
carefull about the ribbon and chip connections (don't reverse them) and
don't let the cables be pushed up against the back of another board; the
cables CAN be penetrated. Everything must be perfectly seated, which is
harder to do considering how extremely stiff the sota's 8088 ribbon cable
is.
I have not been able to get hardware caching to work, so I have to use
software. The bad part about it is that the xt bb will be extremely slow
until the config.sys entry for the sota is activated, so be prepared for
that. And remember that until CBM fixes Janus or whatever to fix it, you
cannot/must not use Amouse when the accellerator is running in the 386 mode
(that switch on the back).
You don't need anything special for the 2091 as far as I know, you just use
makeab and the aboot file to set up the partition. I'd go for perhaps 30
meg or so; I started with 15 and went to 25 cause 15 got filled very
quickly.
