where can I send for a copy??? It takes too long to download (I did it once
and there was no icon for the program and it didn't work.

It is only available to those who have successfully used and liked (enough
to register) the functional demo version.

I don't know what version you downloaded, but in the last few versions, no
icon was included with the files. It is available as a separate download.
Whap! runs fine from the shell or cli. If you don't have at least version
1.9D, then try downloading it again. The current version is 1.9E. You
might ask Steve Ahlstrom if there is going to be an update in the near
future so you don't have to do it twice. Every time CIS burps or changes
their software, all of the automated term programs (like Tapcis, ATO,
Navigator, and Whap!) need to be altered. This has happened several times.

CIS will be changing something again (a _real_ nice change, but I can't
talk about it yet) in 6-8 weeks which will break certain portions of Whap!.
So there will be a 1.9F ready at that time.

I'm currently running Navigator on my Mac Plus for automated access. Does
Whap use standard settings, or does it need to change my settings like
TapCis does?
The reason I ask is that I'm on a business account, but haven't received my
own CIS ID yet. So until the powers that be both here and at CIS get all
the paperwork done, there's two of us sharing an ID. And the other guy
needs the settings the way they are for his EASE program scripts to work
under the Professional Connection 3 software on the IBM.
If WHAP works with standard settings, then I'll buy it as well (no need to
try the demo, I bought Mac Navigator sight unseen). As it is, I have to
download to the MAC at home, take the disks to work, copy them to PC 720K
format on an IBM with a Copy II PC Option board, then read them on my Amiga
using CrossDOS. I'd love an easier way to do it! <GRIN>

Whap! does need "special" settings but I don't believe that they are
different from what TapCIS likes… the prompt character is different but
since Whap! changes that temporarily each time it logs on, there would be
no difference there. Oop! He was not using TapCIS, sorry, got carried
away there.

Thanks Bill, as you noticed I'm not using TapCIS yet, but Navigator on the
Mac (BTW, it's a great program, no bugs, easy to setup and use IMHO, and
even updates forum info (sections and libraries) automatically.).
But, as soon as I get my own CIS ID, I'll be picking up both TapCIS and
WHAP! Since the IBM is my primary computer and Amiga secondary (with my Mac
filling in what few gaps are left).
So any information on compatibility between WHAP! and TapCIS are VERY
welcome as they will both be used ALOT!

Good, glad to help. I have not been using TapCIS much and probably do not
even have a version that will work with the current CIS. Will probably
correct that deficiency in the near future. I did use both for quite a
long period of time.

Thanks for the quick comeback Steve. My run at Whap! will have to wait
then (for previously explained reasons). I just talked to the folks at ABS
(the holders of the corporate account I'm on) and no one knows if the
paperwork for my ID has even been sent off yet… it's a case of each of
them, thought the other had handled it.
Is there a way of buying Whap! directly, without the download first
portion? Or should I just dl it and mail it in now and let the registered
version sit around until I get my own ID? I want to be ready to go
(without Guilt screens) as soon as I get my own ID.

The way Whap! is handled is a bit unorthodox. The shareware concept is "if
you like it, pay for it". With Whap! it's "you can't pay for it unless you
like it". In other words, ATI will not let a someone have the registered
version unless they are using the demo and like it enough to register it.
Registration is done online by a 128 byte binary email sent to your id
(your user id becomes the serial number for the program).
Whap! is relatively complicated to set up and may not be for everyone.
Requiring you to use the demo (it's functional, just has the annoying guilt
screens) ATI avoids the obvious support issues of "Gee, I didn't know it
did that, I don't like it", or "I can't get this set up", etc.
