#Simple hor/vert blend?

How do I get a blend setting that'll give me a vertical or horizontal
blend, similar to using "graduated fill" with 2 colors? (I have IP version
3.6, by the way — in case this was solved in later versions)
P.S. watch for a spiral blend I'll be uploading. Tricky.

Horizontal: Left graph, zero to 50%… RIght graph, 50% to 100%
Vertical: Top graph, zero to 50%… Bot graph, 50% to 100%
Or, reverse them for the opposite "sense" of blending.
By the way… IP 3.6 is positively pre-historic now. :^) Time to upgrade!
4.4 is here in the libs, and 4.5 is due within a few days… we keep adding
things, though, so might be midweek. It'll be worth it, though.

no go. If you select Graduated Fill with black at the left and red at
the right, then do a 2-way horizontal, you get a graduated background that
shows the effect I want to get with Blend. Now If I have a black primary
buffer and a red secondary buffer, set the Blend as you instructed, and
perform a Merge, I don't get the same result. The figure looks like an
hourglass or something. It seems like there should be a way to turn off the
effect of the Top and Bottom Blend mixers, so that only the Left and Right
are taken into account. Only then would I get a screen that goes from black
to red going left to right, regardless of the vertical position. Basically,
what I get is this:
BBBbbrrRR where B is pure black, b is mostly black,
BBBBbrRRR r is mostly red and R is pure red.

I understand now.
Hmmm. I'll speak to Barry about this; in the meantime, try setting the top
and bottom blends to 50%; that should more closely approximate what you're
after, but I think it still won't be exact. What you do want should be
"doable", though, with some new features here.

I'm surprised that nobody thought to ask before. A "straight" horizontal
or vertical blend is one of the first things that come to mind! Think of
all those TV news backdrops where a colored rectangle lies behind some
text, with the transparency of the rectangle increasing as we get closer to
the rectangle's top edge. This would be a snap with the kind of blend I'm
talking about. (I did try the 50% top/bottom trick. No go. Just call me
fussy B^)

yayyy! Thanks for putting it in! It's the first time I even had a
suggestion of mine find its way into a program. An easy way to do it would
be to add an ON/OFF gadget to each of the four blend graphs.

It would be easy, but it would allow some odd three blend organizations
that would be difficult to deal with predictably. We did it as a sub panel
where you can choose from 4 way, 2 way vertical, and 2 way horizontal.
I'm glad we seem to have made your day. :^) It's just as nice for us as you
– there's nothing better than the combination of (a) improving your
product, (b) showing your customers you listen, and (c) doing it quicker
than "others" do.
We wish we could always do this. But…
Some things are much easier than others to implement, they may already be
there but "hidden" or "sleeping", in a fashion. Others mean serious labour
and planning… those usually get "on the list" for later.
