For those interested I happened to stumble upon this CD through Ellis
Enterprises. I usually get discounted CD's from them. The Oxford English
Reference Library contains the following Oxford books: Concise
Dictionary of Current English
Thesaurus
Dict. of Quotations
Dict. of Modern Quotations
Dict. for Writers & Editors
Complete Works of Shakespeare
Guide to English Usage
Dict. of New Words
Revised English Bible
I believe the price was $129 (I ordered a bunch of other stuff, and I
can't remember the specifics at this moment, I'll check later).
I haven't loaded it up and used it yet so I don't know too much about it.
I saw messages elsewhere talking about the OED. This is not
the same thing….
Cheers
almost forgot Ellis number is (1-800-729-9500)
Keith,
I'd be intersted on more details of this CD. Specifically, how good is the
interface? Is it Windows based like MS Bookshelf?
Also, is the guide to english usage Fowlers and the bible the King james
version or something else.
Regards,
Tim
Tim,
I'm planning on installing tommorrow. From the package, it looks like the
display is IBM's BookManager. It also appears that you
get 2 versions, one DOS & one OS/2. I have used BookManager before so I
already know what to expect.
The DOS version is not windows oriented & does not support a mouse. The
OS/2 version has lots of windows & is at first very confusing. I'm very
curious about the speed, since BM is notoriously slow on a Hard Drive.
I'll get back to you on your other questions…..
Keith
Keith,
Let us know what you think of the disc after you've used it for a while.
