#Whap! Message Mystery

Steve: A couple of weeks ago, Rob Kummert left a message on this forum about his problems Whap! and his DataLink 2000 modem. Whap! would crash on him whenever it attempted to dial CIS. I replied to him that I had the same exact problem with Whap! and my DL 2000 and that I had left a message to you about the problem and basically you led me to believe that I must have been doing something wrong. My reply to Mr. Kummert indicated that I didn't think I was doing anything wrong, but rather Whap! was at fault. Strangely, Mr. Kummert never received my reply (I've been corresponding with him via EMail). Having been a SYSOP on CIS, I know that only three people can delete a message – the sender, the receiver and a SYSOP. You wouldn't happen to know what happened to my reply, would you? It apparantly was deleted before it reached its destination. Roger

Roger, No I don't. It may have been lost when moving things around to AmigaVendor forum. About your AE modem, if it is an internal modem, there have been many reports that their serial driver is not the greatest (from here, BIX, usenet, etc). I do not have an AE modem. Whap! works fine with the modems that I do have (PPI, Supra, ClickFax) all of which use the CBM supplied "serial.device".

Roger, I have no idea what happened to your message, but there are 2 other possibilities where a message can get deleted: 1. It scrolls off the forum before it's read. Around here, that takes about a week. 2. The message was left, but the forum software crashed, and the latest backup didn't have your message in it. Admittedly, it's very rare when the crash is so bad things have to be restored from a backup. Don
