Thank you for informing me about Quarterback Tools. My problems became so
bad the OS would not even let me write to my Disk. I purchased this
program and it was able to repair all the errors including bad date and
time stamps, bad Headers and finally a bad bitmap. The last one was the
one that finally did me in. In addition I reorganized my fragmented Disk
and it seems to work a lot better.
I didn't realize it but the manual explains that portions of an open
file's directory information is stored in memory. Consequently if one
program happens to overwrite another it can distort this informations so
that when it is written back to disk it is in error. I'm sure this is what
happened to me. I had been using a compiled Basic program that doesn't
multitask at all (Blitz Basic). I had another program in memory when I
tried to start it so it probably messed it up.
I only lost one directory that was duplicated elsewhere, so I really
didn't lose anything.
