help! I just discovered that in order to get my ATONCE pc emulator to work
I need a motherboard upgrade. My 2000 is at revision 4.3. According to
documentation that came with the emulator, my motherboard needs to be at
revision 6.2. My local dealer say there is no guarantee that if they order
a 6.2 motherboard from commodore that they'll get one. What is involved in
upgrading my motherboard to 6.2? I used to work as tech and I'm not afraid
of a soldering iron. PS. This problem with motherboard revision level is
not mentioned in any ads and is glossed over in a review in the latest
(july 91) amazing amiga.
If your dealer orders a 6.2 that's what they should get, since it has a
seperate part # from the rev 4's

Ha . there's no guarantee that if you upgrade that the ATonce will work
anyways. Mine sure didn't on a 6.2.
I have a revision 4 board and the atonce seems to work about 90% of the
time, sometimes flawlessly other times it gives me many guru errors. I
would like to get something going with other atonce users out there.
I can't seem to get mine to work at all. I have the dreaded 6A board, and
even with the solder connection of the resistor, it won't work properly.
My first problem was that both ATonce and my ICD Novia_20i hard disk use
the same connector point – the 68000 processor plug. I quickly found out
that the two of them will NOT work together. The HD works, but the ATonce
would immediately crash upon startup. Then I just connected the Atonce by
itself: no better. I get the prompt to insert the DOS boot disk, but it
won't boot! All I get is the recurring prompt to insert the boot disk into
drive A – and when I don't get that, I get a load of gibberish written in
GERMAN! Knowing that I can't use it, what *external* IBM emulators can I
use on my A-500? And will they allow me to use VGA (mono) graphics?

I bought my ATonce emulator through the mail from Montgomery Grant. When I
called them to say I wanted to return the emulator because I couldn't get
it to work, they said vortex had just published additional installation
instructions. I don't know if these will help you, Dave, put I'll post
whatever I get as soon as I receive them.
Hmmmm, this sounds fishy. I got MINE from Montgomery Grant as well.
I hope that it'll work with the ICD hard drive. At present, I can't get it
to work. It just hangs when attempting to re-boot using the ATonce
AmigaDOS disk.

And for you ATonce fans, I just read in one of the UK's magazines that
Vortex has released some new software and also a module to allow PC Boards
to be used in the 2000. If anyone wants more details, I'll try to find the
article again.
