#HELP w/ C Ltd SCSI

Anyone have any idea where I can get the s/w to configure an old C Ltd.
SCSI? I've got the hardware but can't find my s/w disk and, as we all
know, C Ltd. is no longer in business.
Rich, I know someone with an old [my old 🙂 ] CLtd SCSI controller;
version 2.1 and 3.0 I think. I couldn't reach them right away, but know I
could get it. Let me know.
BTW, are you Rich Medved of Seattle/Lynwood? Of Computer Quest past?

I have three diskettes:
SCSI Dos 2.6
SCSI Docs
SCSI Dos 3.0 Updates
Although I still use the controller and software, I have no idea whether
the 3.0 diskette alone is enough. I vaguely remember downloading this from
the CLtd BBS way back when.. If you like I can drop a copy of them in the
mail to you, just send Email with your address (I'm not sure I can afford
to Warp and UL all three.) Meanwhile, I'll try to figure out what is on
the 3.0 diskette (e.g only updates, or everything)

Hi,
I'm still struggling with my C Ltd SCSI drive and version 1.30 dated
14-April 1987!!!. It works O.K. some of the time, but I sure would like to
upgrade to something more reliable.
Are C Ltd still trading, does anybody know?, the only phone numbers I've
got for them are disconnected.
I would appreciate any information you might have.

C-Ltd is and has been out of business for about a year.
What C-Ltd controller do you have… specifically, is it the Kronos?
I am pretty sure that the Kronos software is still supported by MicroDyne
except that recently someone reported that they were unable to contact that
company either.
It may be possible to help you, its just that I don't want to be violating
any copyright laws. I think that it is probably OK to send you copies of
the software since C-Ltd was not charging for the software upgrades. I am
not sure what version was the latest for the non-Kronos controller. The
Kronos software will not work with the other board.
MicroDyn still answers (eventually) at 316 265 2661 in the form of Rick
Estes. Rick told me he was on vacation for 2 weeks. He also says that
Kronos works under the versions of 2.0 AmigaDos that he's received.

You have no idea how happy it makes me to read this. I was very
concerned that I might have mailed my C Ltd. host and $200 off into the
land of Oz. (Sorry, bad joke.)
Anyway, I now have some confidence that I will receive my Kronos 2000
soon. Any idea why the FAX number for MicroDyn is no longer in service?

I don't know about the fax, but Rick told me that he MAILED out your stuff;
that UPS or whatever the normal service was had been on strike.
BTW, he also said that he has whatever is needed for Kronos users to work
under Amax is available.

I'm glad to read that he mailed my stuff. For many shipments from the
US to Canada public post is both quicker and cheaper than something like
UPS.
When something comes UPS, first they have to try to track me down in the
phone book. Then, if they can't get in touch with me, they send me a
delivery card. Then, I have a choice of paying them something like $30.00
to clear customs for me or take time to go out to the airport Monday to
Friday, 08:30 to 16:00 to clear customs myself. The $30.00 charge applies
even if there is no duty or tax owing.
If something comes public post, Canada Customs assesses whatever
duties/taxes are due, and just affixes a bill to the shipping container.
It the procedes along the usual delivery process. This often results in
quicker delivery that UPS service.
(BTW, I believe that UPS here is in _another_ labour dispute. I recall
that the same thing happened a few years ago when they were trying to get
substantial concessions from their workers. The last dispute lasted
several months, so they may be down here for a long time this time as
well.)

I did not need to hear that, Ernie. I am waiting for some shipments of
coax and antennas from the states, and shipping by any other means is too
expensive.
UPS went on strike on 23 July 1991. And I had to learn this from the
company in the states trying to ship me the cable. Haven't heard a word in
the Canadian media on the UPS strike. This better not be a long one….

UPS on strike? that's news to me! If they're on strike somebody better tell
the UPS driver that comes and delivers packages to me everyday, and picks
them up too!
I believe that hte strike being referred to is Canadian UPS.

Yes, I have been running a Kronos controller on the Amiga running 2.0 for
quite a few months now. However, in my case, I do not boot from the
kronos.
I've been using Kronos for quite a while now. I do, of course, worry about
whether it will boot properly under 2.0 of AmigaDos, since I don't believe
that there has been any way to properly test this; but Rick Estes does say
that it 'runs' under 2.0.

Same situation here… I have been using the Kronos controller on a machine
running the various incarnations of AmigaDOS 2.0 for about 6 months (I was
real slow on putting 2.0 on this one). In any event, the Kronos has not
had any problem at all but I also do not attempt a boot from it.
I don't know of anyone who could have tested Kronos with a 2.0 rom, of
course. So we don't know yet whether we'll autoboot ok with 2.0.

I won't be finding out for myself either. When I do install the ROM, I
still won't be trying to set up the Kronos for autoboot.

As I bought my board back in 1986, I guess it's not the Kronos version… I
can see no reference to any trademark other than C Ltd. on the board,
though the silk screen also shows the name 'Breck Ricketts',and 'ver 3'.
Anybody else know what the last version of the 'non-Kronos' software is?
I've got version 1.3, released in April 1987. This version can support two
drives, but is only capable of formating drive unit 0. They promised an
upgrade 'shortly' that would be able to format either drive, so I guess
that there was at least one version after release 1.3.
I fear that the alternative will have to be investment in a new drive
controller.
Anybody got any suggestions for a diskdrive controller that supports two
(or more) ST506 harddisks (possibly with a couple of megs of extra memory)
on an Amiga 1000, fitted with a Rejuvenator?.

The thing that you are referring to that supports only two drives is NOT
the C-Ltd controller (I hope!). It should be an SCSI to ST-506 adapter and
should have a 50 pin connector (or connector and cable) to the actual C-Ltd
controller. The controller itself will support up to 7 drives.
It appears the the Highest version number for the non-Kronos controller was
SCSI DOS 3.0 (and there is more than one version of that!).
