Two-up Printing?

John, I betcha that what you're looking to do can be done most easily with about three lines of postscript sent to the Lino before you start outputing a regular PageMaker document. Trouble is, I don't know what those lines would be! They'd say something like: From here on, whenever a page is printed, print it twice, with the second one offset by… Actually, if you want crop marks as well, it might take a few more lines, but I'd look into that approach before I went to the trouble of doing side-by-side layout. The best price for PageMaker is probably obtainable from either MacWarehouse or MacConnection. MacWarehouse is online on CIS. GO MW will take you there. I expect you'll be able to find out a price quite easily. Dave Read action !re 19258

Yes, I bet that's all it would take, assuming the printer had enough memory to buffer one full page. In graphics and bitmap intensive pages, that might be a problem. I can imagine another approach, that would take each painting operator, rebind it, and have it stroke/fill/type each thing twice. I think the post-processing approach as the best possibilities. I investigated a product called Double-Up for the PC, it takes this approach. It's $260, it does two dozen things I have no use for, but it does do what it calls "twin printing", and their flyer describes exactly what I want to do: "Twin page printing: Print two collated copies at once. Page 1 + Page 1 print side by side, ready to be sliced into two perfect books." I'm beginning to suspect that print shops don't ask for this because it lets them charge so much extra for all that extra re-shooting. 🙂 Read action !

John, Try leaving a message for Olav Martin Kvern (ole to his friends) in section 16 (Phil & ole's place). I'm sure he could come up with the Postscript for you. Dave Read action !

John: Re: Your need to print 2-up duplicated pages. Send an e-mail to this person describing your needs: Don Markuson >INTERNET:dmm@tiger1.Prime.COM He wrote an outstanding series of MAC Laserwriter postscript drivers that do, among other neat things, n-up printing. Maybe he could be persuaded to help modify his code to print each page twice , and reduced to 2-up. Don knows postscript inside out, top to bottom and was extremely helpful in supporting his freeware product DMM Laserwriter Stuff. Certainly worth a try…all he can say is "NO"… Norm Read action !re Enter reply.
