Two-up Printing?
Yes, I bet that's all it would take, assuming the printer had enough memory
to buffer one full page. In graphics and bitmap intensive pages, that
might be a problem. I can imagine another approach, that would take each
painting operator, rebind it, and have it stroke/fill/type each thing
twice. I think the post-processing approach as the best possibilities. I
investigated a product called Double-Up for the PC, it takes this approach.
It's $260, it does two dozen things I have no use for, but it does do what
it calls "twin printing", and their flyer describes exactly what I want to
do: "Twin page printing: Print two collated copies at once. Page 1 + Page 1
print side by side, ready to be sliced into two perfect books." I'm
beginning to suspect that print shops don't ask for this because it lets
them charge so much extra for all that extra re-shooting. 🙂
