#HELP! TOS-3401 & ADAPTEC

I just purchased a toshiba 3401b cd-rom drive along with an adaptec 1522
scsi card and the ez-scsi drivers. I've tried every combination possible to
get the drive to work. The card seems to recognize the drive and all the
drivers load without errors (aspi2dos, aspicd, mscdex). Yet when I try to
read from the drive I get the error cdr101: drive not ready, abort, retry,
fail? I have yet to be able to get anything from the drive. In fact, I
can't eject or insert a disk caddy after the system has booted.
I literally spent the afternoon on the phone long distance trying to get
support from toshiba to no avail. They did finally fax me the manual which
didn't come with the drive but the drive still does not work.
If anyone has gotten this drive to work with an adaptec 1522 please leave
me mail with your configuration. I'd truly appreciate it.

Since the drive is brand new it make take a while before the drivers are
out there to support it. Have you looked at or tried something like
CORELscsi? You can ask in their forum for details. (GO COREL)
Where did you purchase your Toshiba 3401 from? At what price?
I purchased it from FutureTron in London, Ontario. It was $649.00 Canadian.
plus taxes which are 15 percent.

Sorry to burst in like this. I ordered the Toshiba 3401 yesterday from NCA
Peripherals in Sunnyvale, CA (phone 408-739-9010). I got it this morning
and installed it this afternoon. Quality machine! The internal is $499
and the the external (which I opted for) are $599. The folks at NCA are
friendly and knowledgable, but busy. Expect to spend some time on hold.

I just purchased a 3401 and am very pleased with the drive itself. The
manual
which came along with the drive was a photocopy and was very
unprofessional. Does anyone know if there is a real version available.

Bill, There were about ten 5×7 pages with binder holes punched in them,
plus a sheet from NCA advising that the drive was set up for external use
and requires termination. Also included a 50 pin cable and am external
terminator were included. David
David, after your message, I called NCA. Spoke to a nice guy named Rick.
Most helpful. Drives in stock, mine going out Fedex. I was ready to give up
on Texel- another month for the multisession. I hope the drive works with
the Adaptec 1740 Eisa board I have, and the EZSCZI software it came with
(by Corel for Adaptec). Third level Kodak PC-Rom software not out just yet.
