Jon, you shouldn't give up so easily! Whether it's Imagine or Lightwave or whatever, 3D is a hell of a lot of fun once you get the hang of it! Before giving up totally, why don't you consider getting some additional reference material for Imagine, like Steve Worley's excellent Understanding Imagine 2.0 book or my "Imagine: the Possibilities" VHS tape? And feel free to ask questions here and in Amigavendor. Anyone who uses 3D software has hit its immense learning curve, but the ride keeps 'em coming back for more! –Rick Rodriguez

Peter, calm down! 3.0 is still several months away! But you might want to give Impulse a call and verify that you're on their mailing list anyway. I would check, but I'm in Miami and they're in Minneapolis. I'll leave messages as the release approaches and I hear what the new features are going to be. –Rick

RICK, Hello there ! i have a few questions for you… 1 what is the scheduled release date for IMAGINE PC version ? 2 what hardware requirements will there be to run it ? 3 can i order it directly from IMPULSE or is there someplace in my area that will be getting it immediately upon release? (DENVER CO.) 4 is it still carrying a retail price of $500.00 or has that changed? 5 will it support a KURTA 12×12 tablet ? (summagraphics emulation) 6 what will the still picture outputs be ? GIF's, PCX, etc. 7 what will the animation outputs be ? FLI, ?? 8 what will the highest and lowest possible resolutions be ? well thats all i have ….for now anyways :> i must say that i'm very glad to see someone put out a quality 3d program for the PC without trying to get $3,000.00 out of you ! congradulations and good luck, i hope you make the 3D STUDIO snobs feel a litle more humble! ( some of them need it ! ) Thanks for your time JOHN

John, I don't have the answers to all your questions. What I know so far is that Impulse expects the PC version to be identical to the upcoming 3.0 release for the Amiga and the software will retail at or under $500. As to file formats and so forth, I simply don't know. I believe the software will run on a 386 or greater. If you're at all familiar with Imagine on the Amiga, you are aware that any resolution output is possible, therefore, I would expect the same to be true on the PC. Feel free to give Impulse a call for further (more enlightening) information. –Rick

I appreciate that. I haven't given up easily. I have both Steve's book and the Imagine video you guys put out. I just don't think I'm cut out for this kind of thing… is it possible to transfer the registration? Thanks, Jon
#20342From: Stan Kalisher (Impulse)Jul 2, 1992 9:03 PM
Yes, you can transfer the registration so long as you destroy any backups that you might have made. Are you sure you have my tape or did you purchase the Centaur video (a real snore)? –Rick

I saw both of them. I have your tape… You are right. The Centaur one sucked. Wow! You produced it? I'm impressed! Jon Via WHAP! – via Whap!

Before you abandon 3D outright, perhaps take a look at Caligari. Before getting a deal on a Toaster, I sold my Imagine 2.0 (the "improved manual" was the last straw and Steve's book wasn't out yet.) and was about to buy Caligari Personal. The Personal version doesn't save IFF24 frames but does work with DCTV and Ham-E. It also annoyingly cuts out multitasking and has it's own object format that they feel free to keep to themselves or change too often. Despite that, the interface is easier to use than Imagine. It's also a shame that LightWave isn't available without the dongle. It is a dream to use. I can do in a few minutes with LightWave what it took me hours to figure how to do in Imagine. Imagine does have great object modeling features though. I just couldn't easily construct animations without constantly beating my head with a brick. 🙂 Even simple things like rotations. I'm also glad to see people like Steve Worley doing quite a bit for Imagine. The new texture package of his outta be great! And of course his book comes out after I sold Imagine off… Dan McCoy – via Whap! and saving money doing it too!

Thanks for the information. I have used Caligari a bit and found it very interesting. I wanted to be able to use Imagine because I feel that it can create much more life-like pictures. I have also used LightWave a bit and WOW! I just wish I was rich… Jonathan Schmidt – Whappin' from CompuServe Land!
