Hi Chris. I'm now looking at the June issue of Pc Sources which is telling me that a standard 486/50 is 15% faster than a 486sx/25 with a chip doubler (486dx2). With Intels' different brands of Processors it becomes a dizzying choice. Resellers are eager to point out that for another $200 you can get the next fastest machine. But the pocket book has to be the deciding factor. My choice now would be to buy a 486/33 knowing that there will be a clock doubler (486DX2/66) for that as well, which will make that slightly faster than a 486/50. It won't get any better than that for the 486. The next step will be the P5 or 586. If you decide upon the 486/33 with hopes for the doubler, be aware that most suppliers probably aren't able to upgrade the machine easily (they'll have to replace the chip and the crystal). This means that the machine may have to be sent out so someone can solder in a new crystal. If you shop carefully you may find a few suppliers (I think MicroLab, 800-677-7900 may have the crystal socketed) that will have a socket for the crystal built in. Good Luck in your shopping…..BCG
