I appears we're in an identical situation. I wish I could have gotten as
definitive information as you did from Gateway to begin with. The people
that I spoke to didn't seem to know whether the tone change was proper or
not. I guess there aren't that many people using large amounts of memory.
I'm happy to know now that I don't have to shoot my computer to put it out
of its misery. <g> Thanks for your help.

The support I have gotten from Gateway has been good, at least on the one
occasion that I had to call them (concerning the problem as we had). I did
get a collective "Wow!" when I told them I had 24 MB installed, so I agree
that we are in the vast minority with this much memory installed. However,
I'm awful glad this motherboard can handle up to 64 MB, cause I can see the
day in the near future when we'll need that much.
Boy, 3D Studio really kicks butt when you give it enough memory to
eliminate paging. As far as the POST tone, they weren't sure why it
changed, but they assured me it was OK, which apparently it is.
